Tonight’s TV Addictions: Monday April 20, 2009

April 20th, 2009

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
CASTLE (10PM ABC)
The death of a socialite leads to Beckett attending a charity ball as Castle’s date. Talk about finding a way to turn a frown upside down!

CHUCK (8PM ABC)
Scott Bakula returns as Chuck’s dad, who finds himself in need of rescue. As if that weren’t enough, Chevy Chase also puts in an appearance and Morgan becomes a Buy More outcast.

GOSSIP GIRL (8PM CW)
If Serena returns from Spain still moping about Dan, I will personally slap her. Hard. Meanwhile, Blair might just prove herself the self-sabotage queen when she makes a secret pact behind new beau Nate’s back. And expect mugging and eye-rolling galore when Dan winds up having to literally serve his rich peers.

NEW & NOTABLE:
THE BIG BANG THEORY (8PM CBS)
Yes, it’s a rerun, but it also offers valuable help in solving one of life’s biggest mysteries as Sheldon tries to figure out gift-giving etiquette.

Tonight’s TV Addictions: March 30, 2009

March 30th, 2009

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
THE BIG BANG THEORY (8PM CBS, CTV in Canada)
Considering tonight’s episode is called “The Dead Hooker Juxtaposition” we’d say there’s a 50/50 chance that the purported rivalry between Penny and the new girl in the building is not going to end well.

GREEK (8PM ABC Family)
After discovering that life doesn’t always work out like a Reese Witherspoon movie, Casey Cartwright returns to CRU after a summer in Washington with a renewed outlook towards academia. Yup, Casey’s hitting the books Rusty style.

CHUCK (8PM NBC, CityTV in Canada)
When Chuck and Sarah’s complex relationship is exposed, a hot cold female cylon agent played by Tricia Helfer is assigned to evaluate Sarah’s performance, putting her life job in jeopardy.

GOSSIP GIRL (8PM CW)
After years of wondering how on earth a seemingly unemployed musician can afford to send two kids to one of New York’s most prestigious private school, do the GOSSIP GIRL writers seriously expect us to buy tonight’s plot that has Rufus worrying about how he’s going to be able to afford to send Dan to Yale. Really?

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (8:30PM CBS, E! in Canada)
Ted’s list of “things the gang’s too old to do” prompts Barney to attempt everything on the list within 24 hours to prove Ted wrong. Wait until he finds out that on the top of that list is “attempt everything on a random list within 24 hours to prove a point.”

Ask the Addict: GOSSIP GIRL, 90210, KINGS & More!

March 16th, 2009

sebastian stan gossip girl

Got any GOSSIP GIRL scoop? I seriously cannot wait until tonight’s brand new episode. — GossipGal83
The TV Addict:
Without giving too much away (because my friends at the CW really hate when I do that!) Tonight’s installment of GOSSIP GIRL is jam-packed with some seriously OMG-worthy moments. Relationships will be tested (particularly those of the ‘N’ and ‘V’ variety), surprising alliances will be formed (Leighton Meester’s real-life boyfriend Sebastian Stan returns as Carter Brazier, pictured above), and a vengeful Blair will hit the warpath in an effort to discover the identity of the person responsible for crushing her dreams. In other-words, set against the backdrop of the senior class play, leave it to the students of Constance Billard to ensure that most of the must-see-drama takes place off-stage rather than on.

I loved KINGS last night, especially my new fictional TV boyfriend David Shepherd (Chris Egan). Please tell me he is going to be okay? — DavidisthenewDamon
The TV Addict:
As much as I’d love to tell you that young David Shepherd is going to be a.okay, he’s about to find himself on the wrong end of a sniper rifle’s sight. Turns out that unless you’re Captain Sully Sullenberger, being catapulted from obscurity to national hero within the span of two hours isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. Who knew?

Two questions for your TV Addict. (1) When does 90210 come back? And (2) should I bother returning to the zip code that I once loved? — BeachBum
The TV Addict:
First off, clearly someone has yet to download theTVaddict.com’s March 2009 TV Calendar that I spent countless hours meticulously crafting. For if you had, you would have already have know that 90210 returns on March 31st at a new time (9PM). And two, shockingly enough, 90210 is in fact worth watching when it returns thanks to the show’s break-out star Erin Silver (Jessica Stroup) doing something so surprising, so hilarious and let’s just say so border-line creepy that for once, come Wednesday morning, everybody will be talking about 90210 for all the right reasons.

gossip girl

Spotted: Your very first look at the return of everybody’s favorite Upper East Side troublemaker Georgina Sparks. And while details are being kept tightly wrapped with regards to what exactly brings Georgina back to New York, and more importantly why she looks a little too happy to be talking to Chuck Bass, actress Michelle Trachtenberg does promise (in an interview with E! Online) that when she makes her debut in the first of a multi-episode arc starting April 27, “It will definitely be filled with a lot of fantastic, juicy details and elements.” We can’t wait.

Breaking News: The CW Renews [Almost] Everything!

February 24th, 2009

That noise you just heard was the squee of three million or so SUPERNATURAL fangirls learning that their favorite Winchester brothers, alongside GOSSIP GIRL, ONE TREE HILL, 90210, AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL and SMALLVILLE have all been given early renewals for next season by The CW.

“As we continue to build The CW Network as a destination for young women, these six shows have clearly contributed to strengthening our schedule and our brand identity,” said The CW president Dawn Ostroff in a statement released to the media. “By securing these signature hits for next season, we’re furthering our commitment to deliver high-quality, original programming to our viewers, advertisers and affiliates.”

Tonight’s TV Addictions: February 9, 2009

February 9th, 2009

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
24 (9PM FOX, Global in Canada)
Okay, Mr. Bad Guy, it’s one thing to crash planes and threaten the people of the United States. But when you start trash-talkin’ the First Family, you’ve gone too far! Expect retribution to begin… sometime in the next 10 hours.

HEROES (9PM NBC, 10PM on Global in Canada)
Paintings predict a dire future, Sylar meets a guy with abilities he wants to use… wait, this is the storyline that was going to be different and exciting and make everything better again, right? Um, is it working?

THE BIG BANG THEORY (9:30PM CBS)
Christine Baranski swings by as Leonard’s mom. Past experience has taught us that maternal visits to any sitcom character usually wind up disasterously. Meanwhile, is it just us, or is CBS trying to kill this show by just running it whenever the heck they have a gap to fill?

NEW & NOTABLE:
GOSSIP GIRL (8PM CW)
Seeing as The CW is blowing off Obama’s talk, I bet they wish they had something new to offer folks as an alternative! Instead, we get a rerun of this year’s snowflake ball.

5 Lessons Learned From Last Night’s GOSSIP GIRL

February 3rd, 2009

gossip girl carnal knowledge

It turns out Dan and Jenny Humphrey aren’t the only underprivileged kids from the wrong side of the tracks who are getting a free education every Monday night at 8PM. Here are a few things this TV Addict gleaned following last night’s time spent on the Upper East Side.

Lesson #1: The cell phone is mightier than the sword
Just ask Michael Phelps! But seriously, all it took was one brilliantly succinct text message on behalf of Blair (”Lonely Boy and Ms. Carr? Mary Kay Letourneau alert!”) to get the ball rolling with regards to last night’s scandal du jour. Impressive, no?

Lesson #2: Calling a teacher by her first name is never a good idea
Not only is Dan Humphrey’s continued insistence on referring to Ms. Carr as “Rachel” practically beg the Constance Billard rumor mill to skip jump into overdrive, it further cemented Humphrey’s status as a pretentious pompous blowhard — not to mention, somewhat of an idiot! I mean hello!? On what planet does one cheat on the Amazonian Goddess known as Serena van der Woodsen with a teacher who eerily resembles a younger, shorter Shannen Doherty?

Good News, Bad News: The Osbournes, GOSSIP GIRL, LIPSTICK JUNGLE & SWINGTOWN

January 15th, 2009

Good News: Sharon Osbourne revealed to the NYPost that the Osbournes have been banned from Jay Leno since guesting on Jimmy Kimmel way back in May of 2008. Bad News: No word on whether fellow Late Night hosts Conan O’Brien, David Letterman and Craig Ferguson have followed suit with the Leno ban. Here’s hoping! [Source]

Good News: The CW has officially announced that GOSSIP GIRL showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are developing a spinoff that will chronicle the wild years of Lily van der Woodsen in Los Angeles circa 1980. With the Hollywood Reporting, well reporting that, “as in the original series, fashion, pop culture and music will be central to the spinoff.” Bad News: Fashion, pop culture and music…. does the CW remember the 80’s…. shudder. [Source]

Good News: According to NBC Primetime president Angela Bromstad, reports of LIPSTICK JUNGLE’s cancellation are greatly exaggerated. Bad News: Unfortunately the same can’t be said for SWINGTOWN, which CBS president Nina Tassler revealed was not coming back at yesterday’s Television Critics Association press tour stating, “We’re not going back to SWINGTOWN. At the end of the day the show was well executed, it was well received, the performances were great, the writing was great. It was a risk, we took it, and we’re proud of it.” [Source]

Nate Archibald, Where Art Thou?

January 14th, 2009

Words this TV Addict never thought he’d utter: We’re starting to feel sorry for Gossip Guy Chace Crawford.

Why feel sorry for one of the lucky few winners of the genetic lotterly? Simple. Nate Archibald continues to get the cold shoulder from the GOSSIP GIRL writers despite being one of the most buzzed about young actors on the show. Take Monday night’s episode for example. This so-called lead character on the CW’s flagship show once again garnered less screen time than well, everyone. Gone and forgotten are his familial issues, housing crisis and relationships (or lack there of) with both Vanessa and Jenny. I mean for Frak’s sake, Dorota gets more screen time and we’re fairly confident that she’s not even legally allowed to work in this country! Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage [GOSSIP GIRL showrunners], care to explain?

Week in Rewind: SNL, NBC, Ed Westwick & More!

December 15th, 2008

Mea Culpa of the Week: After calling for his dismissal on more than one occasion, we feels it’s only fair to give credit where credit is due. Not only did Fred Armisen’s hilarious impersonation of Governor David Patterson on this weekend’s SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE manage to keep us from reaching for the fast forward button. He genuinely had us ROTFL (Rolling on the floor laughing).

Disappointment of the Week: In theory, Stephanie (special guest star Sara Rue) using sex to distract Leonard from breaking up with her on THE BIG BANG THEORY sure seemed like a funny idea. Too bad the reality of using (or withholding) sex to get what you want played out like one of the oldest (and least funny) sitcom tropes in the book.

Emmy Bait of the Week: Following last Monday’s surprisingly emotional performance by one Chuck Bass. We’d like to say six words we never thought we’d associate with GOSSIP GIRL. For Your Emmy Consideration: Ed Westwick.
