Well, they don’t call him Scoopy-Doo for nothing. Not surprisingly, TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello was the first reporter to score a post-GILMORE interview with everyone’s favourite ‘girl’ Lauren Graham. When asked about the reason a last minute deal fell through for a final season of GILMORE GIRLS, Graham had this to say:
“Well, you know, there was a lot that went back and forth by the time the [13 episode thing] came out. I had sort of said to them a couple of months ago that I didn’t see it coming back, and they had asked to just give them some time to figure something out that would make it work. Both Alexis and I felt tired, and also creatively like the show was in a place where we were either at the end or very close to it. We really couldn’t imagine another season. I think they were trying to tempt us with 13, which was tempting, but ultimately it just wasn’t going to work for them. We needed the situation to be so ideal, and I think it just wasn’t meant to be. I do want to say that the studio and the network were very generous and very respectful in this whole process. We just didn’t want to work the schedule we’d been working. But if we’re working a lesser schedule, what is the show? The way we’d like to have done it would not have necessarily been good for the show. Right now you have me working six to seven days an episode, and Alexis doing about the same. To do anything less than that just wasn’t going to be the same show. They tried to make it appealing for us, and we tried to be imaginative, but then at the end of the day it just felt like we were trying to do something impossible.”
Needless to say, the interview in its entirety is quite an interesting read. But let’s face it, anyone can get Lauren Graham to talk, the girls loves to talk! If Ausiello really wants to impress us, he’ll get Michel Alexis Bledel on the line. Can’t wait to hear what her next project is.
In an interview taped for Tuesday’s ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW Lauren Graham spoke out about the end of GILMORE GIRLS:
It was a conversation that was going on for a long time it’s not a surprise. I think it’s a really a good thing… It’s the best thing for the show and I feel really good about it.
One of the CW’s most popular shows comes to an end on May 17.
Thanks to TVTATTLE for the tip!

Well, it’s official. GILMORE GIRLS is indeed coming to an end. It would seem that the CW and Warner Bros simply didn’t pony up enough money to lure back stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel for a shortened 13 episode season. In an official statement, the CW and Warner Bros Television announced:
“Announcing the final season of Gilmore Girls is truly a sad moment for everyone at The CW and Warner Bros. Television. This series helped define a network and created a fantastic, storybook world featuring some of television’s most memorable, lovable characters. We thank Amy Sherman-Palladino, Dan Palladino, Dave Rosenthal, the amazing cast led by Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel as well as the producers, writers and crew for giving us this delightful gem for the past seven years. We would also like to thank the critics and Gilmore fans for their passionate support and promise to give this series the send off it deserves.”
Are you prepared to say goodbye to Stars Hollow forever? Does Alexis Bledel really think that shedding her ‘Rory’ persona thirteen episodes early is going to save her fledgling film career? Does anyone else find it ironic that GILMORE GIRLS — a series that spent seven years preaching the values of community and friends over financial status — came to an end purely based on dollars and cents? Is it possible that the end of GILMORE GIRLS is the best thing that’s happened to VERONICA MARS all season long? Post away with your thoughts below.

Having just watched last night’s episode of GILMORE GIRLS I’m embarrassed, nay, mortified to discover that Michel and I drive the same car. On a totally unrelated note, if anyone’s interested in picking up a used Volkswagen Golf in mint condition email theTVaddict.
Car similarities aside, I truly enjoyed last nights episode with the exception of one thing. I can’t believe Lorelai Gilmore wasn’t wearing a bicycle helmet! Yes, I know this isn’t something that the average viewer probably cares about, but there are far worse fates than failed relationships in store for Lorelai if she continues her irresponsible ways (and don’t even get me started on the cell phone chatting!).
Did you know that 84 bicyclists died on US roads in 2005? 92% of them died in crashes with motor vehicles (720). About 540,000 bicyclists visit emergency rooms with injuries every year. And of those, about 67,000 have head injuries, 27,000 have injuries serious enough to be hospitalized and 1 in 8 of the cyclists with reported injuries has a brain injury.
Lorelai, it’s time to smarten up. Clearly you and Luke are on the road to ‘happily ever after’. It would be a shame to see your carelessness turn you into Stars Hollow Roadkill.

Thanks to theTVaddict.com, you don’t have to wait until the GILMORE GIRLS season (series?) finale to see Rory meet her hero. In the May 15 episode, aptly titled, “Bon Voyage,” CNN journalist Christiane Amanpour makes a guest appearance, as Stars Hollow throws a huge graduation party for Rory. Oddly enough, watching last night’s episode of GILMORE GIRLS was eerily similar to sitting through an hour of AMERICAN IDOL. The episodes were both mixed bags filled with cringe-worthy moments, funny moments and those magical moments that remind you why you fell in love with the show in the first place.
The Cringe-Worthy Moments:
GILMORE GIRLS: I can’t believe after over a month off, the writers had the audacity to open the episode with a scene between Michel and Sookie. When will the writers learn, Michel isn’t funny. Additionally, nothing against the young actress who plays her, but can anyone else not stand April?
AMERICAN IDOL: Simon took the words right out of my mouth when he told Sanjaya, “Enough is enough.. the joke is over.” Will America really be fooled by another ‘wacky’ hairstyle? Who are we kidding, this is the country that voted Taylor Hicks as their AMERICAN IDOL.
The Hilarious Moments:
GILMORE GIRLS: Zack, Paris and Kirk! Zack’s love of the maze (again, how is a father of twins supporting his family on a waiter salary?), Paris’ milk fetish, and Kirk on stilts (hilarious!). These three characters have been beacons of light in what’s been a pretty heavy and depressing season.
AMERICAN IDOL: Simon finally told Doolittle what I’ve been shouting at the television all season long. Get over yourself and stop acting surprised when you’re told your a good singer. You’re great, accept it.
The Magical Moment:
GILMORE GIRLS: Luke and Lorelai finally apologized to each-other. It’s about time, it only took a season of awkward and painful moments. But you know who they really should have been apologizing to — us [the audience]. For making fnas sit through their whole mess of a relationship.
AMERICAN IDOL: How nice was it to see Phil Stacey, who’s deservedly found himself in the bottom three week after week finally deliver a guaranteed winning performance. Has America found its next Country star?
GILMORE GIRLS finally returns tonight with a brand new episode after what seems like an eternity. Frankly it says a lot about the show this season that I have yet to watch the last new episode that aired. What will you be watching tonight — GILMORE GIRLS or IDOL? Sadly, I think I’ll be watching the latter (don’t worry, I’m PVRing GILMORE).
Is there any character on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES more annoying than Tom Scavo? How on earth does Lynette put up with his incessant whining? Perhaps she should take a page from Betty Applewhite’s book and lock him in the basement.
Unbeknownst to me, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER was a repeat last night. But it turns out the “Swarley” episode is just as funny the second time.
I should have known better than to fall in love with a FOX drama right off the bat. DRIVE opened to less than stellar numbers on Sunday, garnering a mere six million viewers for its two hour premiere. Will FOX show patience with the Tim Minear vehicle? Or yank it off the highway like they did with PROFIT, REUNION, FIREFLY, WONDERFALLS et al? Stay Tuned.
Anyone else get a sense of deja vu while watching last night’s episode of the KING OF QUEENS? Doug turning smart for an episode was eerily similar to Homer Simpson jumping a few hundred IQ points a few years back. Perhaps the writer’s took the Kevin James/Homer Simpson comparison a touch too far this time.

Historically, my Tuesday nights have revolved around new episodes of either GILMORE GIRLS and VERONICA MARS. But since Gilmore’s been in repeat mode and Veronica was unceremoniously replaced by a bunch of PussyCat Dolls — like any good TV addict, I found myself in search of a new fix.
Surprisingly, that fix is FOX as I’ve lately found myself hooked on AMERICAN IDOL and HOUSE. There’s something comforting about knowing exactly what you’re getting between the hours of eight and ten on Tuesday night. More specifically, no disappointing plot-lines like ‘April’ and ‘Christopher’ to ruin my night.
With IDOL we get to watch amateur singers strive for fifteen minutes of fame while HOUSE never fails to deliver interesting and suspenseful stories wrapped up nicely in forty-four minutes. Combined, both shows deliver two hours of entertainment and more importantly provide us with two of television’s most compelling characters — Dr. House and Simon Cowell respectively. (How many of you were waiting for me to say Sanjaya?)
When GILMORE GIRLS and VERONICA MARS finally return with new episodes, the CW will have bigger issues to deal with than simply wrapping up their seasons (or is it series?) properly. They’ll have to entice this TV addict, and millions others to return to the network that decided to replace our beloved blond-haired detective with scantily clad ‘musicians’. Dawn Ostroff, were the PUSSYCAT DOLLS worth it?
theTVaddict’s mailbox has been inundated with news this evening that the cast and crew of GILMORE GIRLS were officially told today that the show is ending this May. While I’ve fired off an email to my friends at Warner Bros Television for confirmation, I’m still waiting to hear back. Stay tuned… for as soon as I hear something you’ll be the first to know.
Update: My source has informed me that at this time, there will be no official comment from Warner Bros. It should be noted that the last time I received a ‘no comment’ this quickly from Warner Bros, it was to deny the cancellation of THE OC! Needless to say, stay tuned…
