BONES (8PM FOX)
We watch for the Sam and Dianne will they or won’t they dynamic, and it seems ever so closer to being realized in the season premiere: six weeks after his injury, Booth (David Boreanaz) is starting to realize his feelings for Brennan (Emily Deschanel) – except, ah, a catch, one involving guest star Cyndi Lauper as a psychic and a clown. Hey, it’s progress, right? Grade: B — Aleks Chan

FRINGE (9PM FOX, ‘A’ in Canada)
We last saw FBI agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv, who’s like a Jennifer Garner-Elizabeth Mitchell hybrid), she was gazing out of a still-standing World Trade Center in an alternate universe. We next see her hurling out the front windshield of her SUV. Not a lot of explanation in the premiere (which is mostly the producers setting the stage for the season), but its back in the same focused state of mind we left it in, and it only makes the tricky season ahead seem that much more promising. Grade: B+ — Aleks Chan

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Reasons We’re Excited For FRINGE’s Second Season Premiere (and why you should be too!)

September 10th, 2009

Love is in the air
After a long day of saving the world from paranormal phenomena and mutated serial killers that may-or-may-not-be from ‘the other side (dimension?),’ it should probably come as no surprise that two of your favorite series regulars succumb to temptation on Thursday’s second season premiere. But what might come as a surprise is which member (or members) of Fringe division lock lips! Needless to say, like most everything on the series, we guarantee you will not see it coming.

The truth is out there
Which is our way of saying that X-FILES fans in particular should pay extra close attention to Thursday’s episode that have writers J.J. Abrams and Akiva Goldsman unexpectedly tipping their hat to the paranormal FOX series that started it all.

Agent Charlie Francis
Even though actor Kirk Acevedo did announce via facebook that he was fired, don’t believe everything you read. Or rather, do believe it. Kinda. It will make Thursday’s episode that much more surprising.

Ask the Addict: Spoilers for GREEK, FRINGE, THE CLEVELAND SHOW & More!

August 11th, 2009

flash forward cast

Question: For quite some time now you’ve been kind enough to provide your fellow TV Addicts with an incredibly useful calendar highlighting the month’s big TV events. Seriously, my cubicle at work is practically wallpapered with them and I really can’t thank you enough for your hard work. The only problem is that you totally dropped the ball when it came to August. Please explain yourself? — HookedonTVA
The TV Addict: Truthfully, the TV Addict was on strike. And by that I mean, if the networks aren’t going to bother to program quality television in August, I certainly am not going to take time away from my FREAKS AND GEEKS marathon busy schedule to help promote the return of MILLIONAIRE on ABC. Plus, between Comic Con, my much-deserved vacation and the Television Critics Association Press Tour, I simply ran out of time. That said — here in a nutshell is everything you need to know for August: MONK and PSYCH returned to USA on August 7, MAD MEN returns to AMC on August 16, PROJECT RUNWAY makes it’s Lifetime premiere on August 20, TOP CHEF returns to Bravo on August 19, while GREEK picks up exactly where it left off on ABC Family on August 31.

Question: GMMR has got me totally hooked on GREEK. Got any spoilers? — Cappietastic
The TV Addict: Are you sitting down? Because I’m about to drop an honest-to-goodness GREEK game-changer on you. A spoiler so big, it may-or-may-not rock Greek row forever. Ready for it? When the hit ABC Family series returns from hiatus on August 31 [Please take a moment to ensure that there are no spill-able liquids within your computer's proximity!] expect to see hear a proposal from a series regular.

Question: Loved your sneak peek at FRINGE’s second season premiere, but found myself wondering as to why it was completely William Bell free? — TheOtherSider
The TV Addict: Unfortunately, there is a very good reason that my little tease was completely William Bell free —because that’s exactly what the episode was. Leonard Nimoy was MIA. That said, FRINGE executive producer Jeff Pinkner did confirm at last week’s TCA panel for the show that Nimoy has already filmed one episode for season two and “is welcome back as much as he wants.”

TCA Live Blog Day 4: FRINGE

August 6th, 2009

fringe_tca_panel_09

2:26PM: Those worries that FRINGE’s self-contained easy-to-follow episodic adventures are about to jump into mythology-heavy LOST territory, fear not. According to executive producer Jeff Pinkner, FRINGE is only going to tell the story of two universes — our own — and what the writer’s refer to internally as “over there.” Adding, “No time travel!”

2:27PM: “Leonard [Nimoy] will be back as much as he wants,” revealed Pinkner. That said, [Spoiler Alert!] having seen the the show’s second season premiere — we’ve got some bad news for you. Nimoy while alluded to, does not make an appearance in the premiere.

2:30PM: Did you know that the average television viewer only watches 3 to 4 episodes of a show per season. No really! Which is why season one seemed to re-set itself every three to four episodes. And also why co-creator/writer Alex Kurtzman promises that season 2 will have a more prominent mythology. But not to prominent, with Pinkner being sure to add that FRINGE will not stray into ALIAS territory, where ‘Rambaldi’ overtook the story just a wee bit.

After being spotted on the sidelines of an NFL game, the pit during a recent Nascar race, an AMERICAN IDOL taping (FYI: We hear he voted for Adam!) and now, last night’s MLB All-Star Game, I think we can all agree that FRINGE’s ‘Observer’ pretty much has the world’s greatest job. Well, next to this guy.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
AMERICAN IDOL (8PM FOX, CTV in Canada)
The top 3 finalists sing two songs each. Translation: It would probably behoove FRINGE fans to set their PVR/DVR for a few extra minutes in order to accommodate the inevitable AMERICAN IDOL overrun.

FRINGE (9PM FOX, CTV in Canada)
After JJ Abrams single-handidly revitalized the STAR TREK franchise with a 72.5 million dollar record-breaking opening weekend, Leonard Nimoy returns the favor by beaming down to FRINGE to play the mysterious and thus far unforeseen founder of Massive Dynamics Dr. William Bell.

Ask the Addict: PRISON BREAK, GOSSIP GIRL, HIMYM, FRINGE & More!

May 11th, 2009

michael_sara_prison_break

While I’m not ready to see PRISON BREAK come to an end this Friday, I am ready to find out what goes down. Please tell me that my favorite band of [prison] breakers do not end up right back where they started (read: prison) — LincLover
The TV Addict: If I were to tell you that your favorite band of [prison] breakers don’t end up right back where they started…. well, I’d be lying. Because the fact of the matter is, at least one of your favorite Fox River inmates does in fact return from whence he came. But before you start to put your very own Michael Scofield strategy in motion in an effort to break he-or-they-who-shall-not-be-named out of prison (again!), you should probably take solace in the fact that things could end up a lot worse. After-all, Friday’s finale does offer up its fair share of shocking deaths, which we’re fairly certain is a far worse fate than five-to-ten in Fox River, right?

So excited to meet young Lily Rhodes on tonight’s GOSSIP GIRL flashback, any scoop on the episode? — Stuckinthe80s
The TV Addict: First, the bad news. With half the episode dedicated to GOSSIP GIRL’s modern day prom (more on that later), we didn’t get to spend nearly as much time in the 80’s as this TV Addict would have liked. That said, the good news is that fans of VERONICA MARS will be right at home in Lily’s world; With the episode not only opening with a nice, albeit possibly very unintentional shout-out to Neptune, but very exciting performances courtesy of MARS alum Krysten Ritter (playing Lily’s sister Carol Rhodes) and Ryan Hansen (playing the object of Ritter’s affection). With the even better news being that Lily’s story is most definitely compelling enough to have us asking, “What happens next?” and as an added bonus, the supportive sister vibe between Brittany Snow’s Lily and Krysten Ritter’s Carol may just be the ideal PRIVILEGED replacement should Sage and Rose not see a second season.

Any news on where Max and Casey are headed on GREEK? I’m worried! — TeamCappie
The TV Addict: You should be, because on tonight’s episode Max is made an offer he can’t refuse, putting the opposite attraction that is Max and Casey on hold for at least a month.

Exclusive First Look: FRINGE Beams Down Leonard Nimoy

April 29th, 2009

leonard_nimoy_fringe

Even though it’s essentially a fate accompli that FOX will renew FRINGE for a second season, credit must go to J.J. Abrams for not taking any chances. As evidence by the inspired casting choice of Leonard Nimoy to play the mysterious and enigmatic founder of Massive Dynamics, William Bell, in FRINGE’s May 12 finale (and beyond).

“He [Nimoy] plays William in a way that’s kind of unexpected,” revealed FRINGE executive producer Jeff Pinkner at last week’s Paley Festival Panel honoring the show. “And you go, ‘Oh my God, I now see why these two men were simpatico, were like minded, even though one went into an insane asylum and one went on to be one of the richest men in America.’ Maybe there’s something to that.”
