Good News, Bad News for TV Fans

February 20th, 2008

GOOD NEWS: CBS has taken the pressure off HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER by switching its 8PM timeslot with rookie sensation THE BIG BANG THEORY. BAD NEWS: While funny, BIG BANG THEORY is no HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER. Worse still, CBS once again illustrates that either they have absolutely no confidence in HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, or they just don’t know funny.

GOOD NEWS: NBC gave FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS break out star Taylor Kitsch permission to take a major role in the upcoming WOLVERINE movie. BAD NEWS: Thus putting what looks like the final nail in the coffin for a third season of [all together now] television’s most under-appreciated gem.

GOOD NEWS: NBC announced that they’re going to start streaming classic 80’s shows such as A-TEAM and MIAMI VICE online. BAD NEWS: The most popular of which, NBC will undoubtedly butcher into a two-hour re-imagined KNIGHT RIDEResque movie/series.

GOOD NEWS: AMERICAN IDOL and APPLE have teamed up to make your favorite IDOL performances available on iTunes. BAD NEWS: Did you watch last night’s performances?

Taylor Kitsch to Hit the Big Screen

February 19th, 2008

Still reeling from NBC’s shabby treatment of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS? Well, we’ve got some exciting news that may put a smile on your face. No, FNL has not been officially picked up for a third season and unfortunately Ben Silverman has not been fired from his post as Peacock President. But trust us, this is almost as good.

Tonight’s TV Addict Must Watch: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

February 8th, 2008

“I love it. You love it. Unfortunately, no one watches it. That’s the thing with shows. People have to watch them. We’re NBC, we have a reputation to uphold. And, man, with this writers’ strike … well, we’ll see what we can do. But start watching 30 Rock.” NBC President Ben Silverman in a recent interview with RadarOnline.

If Ben Silverman’s recent comments are any indication, one thing is abundantly clear. Tonight’s season finale of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS may in fact be its series finale thanks to Mr. Silverman’s penchant for reality television, game shows and apparent aversion to quality.

Let’s help prove him wrong. Put down your pens, forget the letter writing campaign and pick up that remote control. Tune into FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS tonight at 9PM on NBC (Global TV in Canada) and help send the only message that Mr. Silverman will notice. An uptick in the ratings.

The clock is ticking, the game’s almost over and we’re out of time-outs. Tune in tonight or make room in your DVD collection for another brilliant-but-cancelled series. And remember, there will be no reunion on the big screen. FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS was already a movie!

GILMORE GIRLS Alum Alert: Matt Czuchry Guests on Tonight’s FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

January 18th, 2008

matt czuchry gilmore girls

Just in case you needed further incentive to tune into tonight’s stellar episode of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS — and judging by the show’s anemic rating, you clearly do — this TV Addict thought he’d remind all of you still suffering through GILMORE GIRLS withdrawal that Matt Czuchry (Logan Huntsburger) shows up in Dillon Texas for the first of four appearances. Czuchry plays a conservative Christian radio show host who not surprisingly, catches Rory’s Lyla’s eye.

Which means, it’s time to help out the perennially under-watched FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and prove you really believe in TV theme songs. Will you really ‘lead where they follow.’ And by ‘they’ I naturally mean GILMORE GIRLS alumni? Lorelai would, as would Sooki. So don’t be an Emily. Don’t miss tonight’s incredible and completely reality TV free installment of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. Airing tonight at 9PM on NBC and Global TV in Canada.

We Spin-Off FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

January 5th, 2008

taylor kitsch tim riggins friday night light

Last night’s FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: Tim Riggins Edition was not only the ideal way for FNL to ring in the new year, but also managed to give this TV Addict a quasi-brilliant idea to get NBC out of the ratings cellar.

Presenting Tim Riggins week on NBC! No seriously, keep reading…

Following Riggins unexpected misunderstanding with Coach Taylor (who also deserves a shout out for his incredible dressing down of Coach Loserbee Laribee), Tim hops onto his pick-up truck and leaves Dillon (shirt optional).

First stop, Sunday night where Riggins takes on NBC’s AMERICAN GLADIATORS. After wiping the floor with Hulk Hogan et al, Riggins drops by THE BIGGEST LOSER on Tuesday to show the losers, umm… we mean winners, how to go from this to this. Realizing gas isn’t cheap, Riggins heads on over to DEAL OR NO DEAL on Wednesday to win a few bucks. Ensuring he’s made enough to make it to 30 ROCK on Thursday, where Judah Friedlander’s Frank yet again, ‘goes gay’. Finishing off the week back in Dillon, where the Taylor’s officially adopt him and live happily ever after.

Now tell me you aren’t going to tune into NBC for that?

Good News: This whole Good News/Bad News piece has been a lot of fun to write. Bad News: Expect the TV Addict to completely overkill it along the same lines as my strike through phase. Yup, still funny.

Random Musings: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, JASON DOHRING, JOURNEYMAN

December 10th, 2007

Variety is reporting today that FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS move to Friday is giving the show a good shot at a third season. Said NBC exec David Nevins, “Between the upscale demos, the young demos and the enormous amount of DVR viewing this show attracts, this show is actually starting to work on Friday nights.” Which is good news, because this TV Addict is in serious denial and cannot fathom watching Landry thrown in prison. Unless of course it’s Sona Prison, where he’s sure to escape courtesy of cellmate Michael Scofield.

Attention MOONLIGHT Fans. The TV Addict will be taking part in a conference call with MOONLIGHT supporting player Jason Dohring this Wednesday at 11:35 (PST). If you’ve got a question for Dohring that doesn’t involve me coercing him to use his powers of persuasion to get Kristen Bell a guest shot on the show. Post away.

A quick reminder to fans of quality television everywhere. Both HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and JOURNEYMAN are new tonight. And since mostly everything else is a repeat, you simply have no excuse not to tune in. And don’t even think of flipping over to THE HILLS finale on MTV. Seriously, there’s no excuse.

Random Musings: THE SIMPSONS, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, KRISTEN BELL

November 19th, 2007

Did you happen to catch last night’s episode of THE SIMPSONS? Talk about bizarre. First we witness three of the most celebrated graphic novelists of our time [Alan Moore, Art Spiegelman and Dan Clowes] defend guest star Jack Black’s new comic book shop “Coolisville” against an angry Comic Book Guy. Then quickly cut to an entirely different story, as Marge opens up a successful chain of Curves-inspired Gyms for women. Channeling my own inner comic book guy, I’ll just say this — ”Most uneven episode ever!”

After catching up on the latest three episodes of the season courtesy of my very own FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS marathon this TV Addict is left pondering one important question. Who is my favorite Dillon Panther couple? While the obvious choices include the Taylors and/or Landry and Tyra, I think this season’s MVC [Most Valuable Couple] award actually goes to Buddy Garrity and his love affair with the Dillon Panthers. Not only does Buddy bring some much needed comic relief to the show, he’s the man responsible for reuniting Coach Taylor with his family and the Panther football team. If that doesn’t get you MVC, I don’t know what does.

And finally, if theTVaddict.com is a little lacking in the update department this week, it’s my Xbox 360’s fault. I’m currently hooked on ASSASSIN’S CREED, one of the most visually stunning and addictive video games I’ve ever played. That said, I can still tie this into TV, as one of the games characters is none other than Veronica Mars herself Kristen Bell. And sadly, not to continue my attack on HEROES, but I think it says a lot about the show when her video-game character is more intriguing than her television one.

TheTVaddict.com Week in Rewind

aliens in america

Welcome to THE TV ADDICT’S WEEK IN REWIND A look back at last week’s good/bad/ugly in the world of television. Oh, and speaking of good. Did you hear? TheTVaddict.com was in the LA TIMES?

BEST EPISODE OF THE WEEK: ALIENS IN AMERICA
Monday’s ALIENS IN AMERICA taught this TV Addict a lot. Namely, that Justin is brilliant. Creating a fake Rocket Club as an excuse to escape his overprotective mom [Franny thought the Canadian Flag was a giant red pot leaf!] and chill in a friend’s basement, eat cupcakes and watch movies — why didn’t I think of that in high school?

More math for you — one really funny plot [local police think Raja’s a terrorist because he’s buying rocket supplies at the local hardware store] plus some terrific one liners [Cheerleader philosophy: “What you’re actually saying is that in this country, there’s absolutely nothing a boy can do that a girl won’t cheer for.”] equals one explosive ending, and the funniest half hour of comedy this week.

LAUGH OUT LOUD MOMENT OF THE WEEK: DEXTER
Sure the words ’serial killer’ and ‘funny’ don’t exactly go hand in hand, but we have a feeling anyone who’s ever bought a car couldn’t help but laugh when Dexter’s latest victim just so happened to be a car salesman. Memo to Dexter: Having recently gone through the ordeal of purchasing my first car, if you’re ever in the Toronto area, I’ve got a few car salesman who are most definitely worthy of your special brand of justice.

BIGGEST SHOCKER OF THE WEEK: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
Dumbledore was gay! Oh wait, this is theTVaddict.com. Mamma Taylor slapped Julie! Landry and Tyra did it! Riggins attended Church! Coach Taylor’s coming back to Dillon! Two questions for FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHT fanatics. One, can FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS get any better? And two, how long until next week’s episode?

October 12th, 2007

Last weeks unfortunate Tyra/Landry ‘incident’ aside, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS is still one of the best shows on television. Find out what all the fuss is about by tuning in tonight at 9PM on NBC and GLOBAL TV in Canada.
