Ask the Addict: Spoilers for GREEK, FRINGE, THE CLEVELAND SHOW & More!

August 11th, 2009

flash forward cast

Question: For quite some time now you’ve been kind enough to provide your fellow TV Addicts with an incredibly useful calendar highlighting the month’s big TV events. Seriously, my cubicle at work is practically wallpapered with them and I really can’t thank you enough for your hard work. The only problem is that you totally dropped the ball when it came to August. Please explain yourself? — HookedonTVA
The TV Addict: Truthfully, the TV Addict was on strike. And by that I mean, if the networks aren’t going to bother to program quality television in August, I certainly am not going to take time away from my FREAKS AND GEEKS marathon busy schedule to help promote the return of MILLIONAIRE on ABC. Plus, between Comic Con, my much-deserved vacation and the Television Critics Association Press Tour, I simply ran out of time. That said — here in a nutshell is everything you need to know for August: MONK and PSYCH returned to USA on August 7, MAD MEN returns to AMC on August 16, PROJECT RUNWAY makes it’s Lifetime premiere on August 20, TOP CHEF returns to Bravo on August 19, while GREEK picks up exactly where it left off on ABC Family on August 31.

Question: GMMR has got me totally hooked on GREEK. Got any spoilers? — Cappietastic
The TV Addict: Are you sitting down? Because I’m about to drop an honest-to-goodness GREEK game-changer on you. A spoiler so big, it may-or-may-not rock Greek row forever. Ready for it? When the hit ABC Family series returns from hiatus on August 31 [Please take a moment to ensure that there are no spill-able liquids within your computer's proximity!] expect to see hear a proposal from a series regular.

Question: Loved your sneak peek at FRINGE’s second season premiere, but found myself wondering as to why it was completely William Bell free? — TheOtherSider
The TV Addict: Unfortunately, there is a very good reason that my little tease was completely William Bell free —because that’s exactly what the episode was. Leonard Nimoy was MIA. That said, FRINGE executive producer Jeff Pinkner did confirm at last week’s TCA panel for the show that Nimoy has already filmed one episode for season two and “is welcome back as much as he wants.”

Review: A FAMILY GUY iPhone App #Fail

June 23rd, 2009

family guy iphone appCombining two of our favorite addictions, this TV Addict will begin periodically reviewing TV-related iPhone Apps, starting with the recently released FAMILY GUY application from FOX Interactive.

In a nutshell, FAMILY GUY’s iPhone App gives Stewie Griffin addicts the ability to watch clips (optimized for WiFi, but also works on 3G), toss Peter, create a Stewie pin-up and mix your own FAMILY GUY video mashup.

What Works: Updated with a fresh crop of surprisingly lengthy video clips on a daily basis (or at least since the day this App was purchased, which for the record was Friday June 20, 2009) FAMILY GUY’s iPhone App has been a surprisingly good tool in this TV Addict’s continued effort to procrastinate from doing actual work. And, since FAMILY GUY episodes at their best, are essentially uneven mixes of pop culture references, sight gags, and random bursts of violent (albeit hilarious) physical humor stitched together around a very loose and usually pointless plot, the App’s ability to play clip after clip of some of the show’s most memorable moments provides for some surprisingly solid breaks from the real world.

Tonight’s TV Addictions: May 17, 2009

May 17th, 2009

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
KING OF THE HILL (7:30PM FOX)
Continuing to mine this TV Addict’s homeland for “Yuks” comes tonight’s KING OF THE HILL season finale which has Boomhauer swapping houses with a Canadian family for the summer causing friction in the neighborhood.

THE SIMPSONS (8PM FOX)
After swarms of unemployed workers from Ogdenville descend on Springfield, the mayor closes the borders and citizen Homer goes on border patrol. Which, as any SIMPSONS fans will tell you, means you should expect power to go to Homer’s head by… what, the eleven minute mark?

FAMILY GUY (9PM FOX)
Now far be it from us to suggest yet another alterna-”mother” theory, but is anyone else the least bit suspicious that all three male stars of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (Jason Segel, Neil Patrick Harris and Josh Radnor) are providing cameos on tonight’s FAMILY GUY season finale? Think about it.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES (9PM ABC, CTV in Canada)
Good News: After a five year flash-forward and 22 episodes of waiting, Dave’s endgame finally comes to a close. Bad News: For Susan and MJ.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
THE SIMPSONS (8PM FOX, Global in Canada)
Considering THE SIMPSONS is going on twenty years, we’re certainly not about to begrudge them the occasional “Help we’re running out of ideas here!” episode, with tonight’s trip to the manicurist for Marge and Lisa sparking flights of fancy about Queen Elizabeth, Snow White, and Lady MacBeth.

FAMILY GUY (9PM FOX, Global in Canada)
Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for FAMILY GUY, which in only their eighth season, really has no excuse for tonight’s Stephen King inspired tale. That said, since Seth MacFarlane and Co. are skewering three of our all-time favorite movies — Stand By Me, Misery and The Shawshank Redemption — we’re gonna go ahead and give them a pass on this one.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES (9PM ABC, CTV in Canada)
The word on Wisteria Lane is “Deception,” with tonight’s installment having Bree lying to Orson, Katherine lying to Mike, Susan and Jackson lying to the authorities and Tom lying about his age.

BROTHERS & SISTERS (10PM ABC, Global in Canada)
Swine Flu be damned! Or at least that is what Nora Walker must be thinking when she heads down to Mexico to knock some sense into Tommy in tonight’s BROTHERS & SISTERS third season finale.

Good News, Bad News: JIMMY FALLON, CHUCK, NUMB3RS & FAMILY GUY

May 1st, 2009

Good News: According to the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), Jimmy Fallon’s LATE NIGHT is the greenest late night show on television. Bad News: We’re fairly confident Jimmy was aiming for funniest. D’oh! [Source]

Good News: Variety is reporting that NBC is this close to picking up CHUCK for a third season. Bad News: We have a feeling this report marks the first of what will be numerous articles citing ‘inside’ sources leading up to NBC’s official announcement on Monday. So CHUCK fans, brace yourself. [Source]

Good News: NUMB3RS, the surprise CBS procedural hit is celebrating 100 episodes this May. Bad News: To uncover the amount of NUMB3RS episodes this TV Addict has actually watched, subtract 100 from the number of episodes NUMB3RS is celebrating. [Source]

Tonight’s TV Addictions: Sunday April 26, 2009

April 26th, 2009

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
THE SIMPSONS (8PM FOX, Global in Canada)
Proving those pesky Simpsons have all the luck, Marge gets hooked on a sauna she FINDS in her basement. Whereas the last discovery we found in our basement was a leaky one that ended up costing us a whole lotta D’oh!

FAMILY GUY (8PM FOX, Global in Canada)
Further evidence that actual talent is not a prerequisite for providing a guest voice on the Seth MacFarlane laugher comes Wentworth Miller and Chace Crawford who lend their voice to tonight’s episode playing high school students (Further cementing our theory is next week’s special guest star Lauren Conrad.)

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES (9PM ABC, CTV in Canada)
ZZZZZzzzz…. sorry, what’s that? Last week’s tribute to Edie is finally over? Phew.

BROTHERS & SISTERS (10PM ABC, Global in Canada)
Growing tired of waiting for Tommy’s return, Julia takes a long hard look at her future. Which we’re just gonna go ahead and say, doesn’t look good. I mean just ask Joe (John Pyper-Ferguson) how he’s doing following his divorce from Sara.

Guess the Celebrity Voice: FAMILY GUY Edition

April 24th, 2009

Can you guess the celebrity voice of “the stranger at the gym holding the dirty needle” who drops by Sunday’s brand new episode of FAMILY GUY? If so, you’re a bigger addict of [insert the name of current Hollywood heartthrob] than I am.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that — says the TV Addict who’s spending his Friday night catching up with this week’s episodes of CHUCK, SOUTHLAND, PRIVATE PRACTICE, HARPER’S ISLAND and FRINGE!

Tonight’s TV Addictions: March 29, 2009

March 29th, 2009

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
KINGS (8PM NBC, CityTV in Canada)
Dear Prince Jack, there are far easier ways to tarnish David’s heroic image than a night out on the town. Just ask this guy.

THE NO. 1 LADIES DETECTIVE AGENCY (8PM HBO)
Lady detectives, this we gotta see!

FAMILY GUY (9PM FOX, GlobalTV in Canada)
When he’s unable to get his question answered at Quahog’s STAR TREK Convention, Stewie does what so many of us Comic Con nerds attendees only wish we thought of first: Builds a transporter and beams the entire cast of “The Next Generation” into his bedroom.

AMERICAN DAD (9:30PM FOX, GlobalTV in Canada)
FYI: Seth Macfarlane’s far less popular animated series may not have the entire cast of “The Next Generation,” but Patrick Stewart does lend his voice, alongside Amy Sedaris, Meg Penner and Carolyn Gilbert-Lawson.

First Look: Stewie Kidnaps the Cast of STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION

March 20th, 2009

family guy star trek tng

FAMILY GUY is about to boldly go where no show has gone before by reuniting the entire cast of STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION… for a play-date with Stewie. Seriously. On March 29, TREK’s most popular crew, including special guest voices: Patrick Stewart, Levar Burton, Gates McFadden, Michael Dorn, Wil Wheaton, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Jonathan Frakes and even the dearly departed Tasha Yar (Denise Crosby) will all be making an unexpected return to the small screen when America’s most devilishly diminutive tot decides to build a transporter and beam the entire crew of the NCC-1701-D to his bedroom so they can spend a fun-filled day together in Quahog.
