With last nights episode of ENTOURAGE, we finally got to travel with our favourite Hollywood hotshots to VEGAS (Vegas, Baby!). Of course unlike Vince, we didn’t get the $100,000 appearance fee to show up (hollywood stars really do have a tough life!).
As is the case, when a TV show travels to Vegas, hilarity and hijinks ensues. Drama’s ‘man-crush’ on his Vegas Masseuse Ken was both funny and incredibly awkward at the same time. Watching super-agent Ari Gold almost have a nervous breakdown over losing a few hundred G’s at the blackjack tables was also great. But the highlight of the night was the stripper brawl that finally occured between Eric (and his possé) and Seth Green and his ‘Entourage’. The petty rivalry over Sloane (E’s girlfriend) was great, and kudos to Seth Green for playing a really entertaining fictional version of himself (let’s hope it’s a fictionalized version of himself).
With only three episodes left in the season, let’s hope the fun of ‘Vegas, Baby’ doesn’t remain in Vegas, and translates to our intrepid gang of four ending the season on a high note.
So Vinnie may lose AQUAMAN 2 to Jake Gyllenhall, or as Ari so eloquently puts it, “Brokeback Aquaman.” Why do I feel like I’ve already seen this story before? Possibly because I have, in real life!
Readers may remember Tobey Macguire trying to pull the same stunt and almost being replaced by Jake Gyllenhall for Spider-man 2. Is it just me, or has ENTOURAGE gone a little to ‘inside Hollywood’ this season? Perhaps the writers could come up with some ‘original’ stories and stop devising plots that have been ‘ripped from the headlines.’ If I wanted to watch episodes that I’ve read about in the newspaper, an episode of LAW & ORDER is just a click away.
Did I love tonight’s episode, not really. This season, ENTOURAGE has taken a page from the LOST playbook. Essentially nothing happens in every episode until the final scene, when we’re left with a quasi-cliffhanger to leave us hooked until the following week. Obviously I have no will power and will be tuned in next week – but not for the plot, more so to see Lloyd turn into the Next Hollywood Super-Agent and make Drama the star he’s dying to become.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, you’ll soon be watching episodes of SEX AND THE CITY and CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM on your cell phone. HBO has made it’s first foray into the cell phone world by signing a deal with Cingular Wireless. Hit HBO shows will be available exclusively on Cingular’s new Video Showcase for mobile phones. This is the first deal of its kind where full episodes of TV will be made available on cell phone. Historically shorter clips or webisodes are all that’s been available.
In more exciting news, Johnny Drama has finally landed a starring role! HBO is creating a mobile spinoff of the ENTOURAGE character for Cingular. Fans will soon be able to follow Johnny in exclusive ENTOURAGE mobisodes. Stay tuned for more details.
Tonight’s ENTOURAGE was not great, definitely the seasons worst episode. Some quick observations:
Why are the episodes so short. I was under the impression that this was HBO (not ‘regular’ TV). Isn’t ENTOURAGE supposed to be 30 minutes. Not the patheticly short 24 minutes we’ve been getting each week.
While I’m thrilled Dom is gone. I’m surprised his story was wrapped up in a mere two episodes. I’m curious if he’ll make a return this season. Random fact: I myself was relegated to the ‘Oakwood Apartments’ this winter! No, I didn’t see Dom and his Hummer.
Was the song that played over the closing credits a tease of things to come. I wonder if it was Saigon’s new hit single. Those of you may remember that Turtle discovered Saigon last season.
Since I’m in the midst of watching FIREFLY on DVD, I can’t help but think of how much Jayne reminds me of Drama!
The inevitable plot device finally happened in last night’s ENTOURAGE. An ‘old friend’ from Vince’s ‘old neighbourhood’ finally popped by. And much to the chagrin of this TV Addict, the old friend was Dom, a recently paroled, manipulative, bully who does not fit in at all with the Hollywood foursome we’ve come to know and love. My only questions are how many episodes will it be until Dom lands Vince on the cover of the Enquirer (or on defamer.com) and how will our gang of four boot Dom back to the east coast?
Final thought. I ‘loved’ how the episode ended with our gang on a ‘roller coaster’. I wonder what ‘brilliant’ writer thought of that metaphor? I wonder if Dom’s arrival means that the Entourage is in for a ‘bumpy’ or ‘rollercoasteresque’ ride! That said, I love the show, I only wish it was an hour. Someone should start a petition!

No network better promotes their shows then HBO. Above is ad that ran in Monday’s Variety, touting AQUAMAN’S Opening Weekend! Of course, Fans of ENTOURAGE (aka most of Hollywood) know that the ad is yet another genius marketing ploy to promote the show. Thanks to the Defamer for the tip.
I LOVE ENTOURAGE. That’s all I have to say. No TV show glorifies Hollywood (and the movie star lifestlye) as much (or as well) as ENTOURAGE. Watching the show is an advertisement for the incredible lives movie stars actually lead. It is way too much fun watching the show, and if you’re looking for a harmless, entertaining and really well written show to fill a half an hour on Sunday night, I’d highly recommend flipping on HBO
The third season of ENTOURAGE premiered tonight, and not a moment to soon. Since EVERWOOD’s finale, I haven’t watched a single new episode of TV. Yes, I know what you’re thinking. How on earth can you proclaim yourself a TV addict when you didn’t watch a single new episode of TV all week? Unfortunately, summer TV isn’t that exciting and being Canadian, we don’t get FX or USA networks. Subsequently, RESCUE ME and the 4400 are out of the question. But I digress….
Simply put, ENTOURAGE is endlessly fun. Who wouldn’t want to live the fantasy movie star life of Vinnie Chase and his intrepid Entourage? Tonight’s episode revolved around the premiere of AQUAMAN (Vinnie’s big summer movie), Vincent’s quest for the perfect opening night date (his mom!) and Super Agent Ari Gold’s struggle to regain his foothold as Hollywood’s most powerful agent.
Overall the episode was highly enjoyable. My only complaints are threefold. To start, it seems as though the ENTOURAGE writers have been watching too many episodes of LOST during their hiatus. Nothing actually happened in the episode. The show ended so suddenly, I looked at the clock to make sure I didn’t miss half the episode. Secondly, as LOST tends to do, the episode was entirely a build up to the big premiere. We’ll have to wait until next week to actually experience the premiere of AQUAMAN. Finally Turtle and Drama. Their ‘antics’ have always been the weak point of the series. Lets hope the writers find something interesting for these two buffons to do this season. They’re fast becoming my ‘Sookie’ moment of ENTOURAGE. (If you have no idea what a ‘Sookie Moment’ is, check out Dan Manu’s Blog on TVGuide.)

After far too long a hiatus, the boys of summer are back. If you’re new to ENTOURAGE, the hit comedy series takes a look at the day-to-day life of Vincent (Vinnie) Chase, a hot young actor in modern-day Hollywood, and his entourage. He’s brought with him from their hometown in Queens, NY: manager (best friend) Eric, half-brother (aspiring actor) Drama, and perennial hanger-oner Turtle. The series chronicles the ups and downs of the modern day hollywood lifestyle, and is pretty much the most entertaining comedy on TV this summer. I just thought I’d share some ENTOURAGE scoop, as I’m really looking forward to the premiere on June 11. Check out this answer from today’s ASK AUSIELLO:
I just watched the first three episodes of Season 3 over the weekend, and I’m happy to report that our boys are still on top of their game. Much of the early action focuses on the opening of “Aquaman” and Vincent’s efforts to convince his skittish, New York-based mom (Mercedes Ruehl) to fly out to L.A. and be his date at the premiere. Meanwhile, box-office-obsessed Ari — whose new agency is up (and barely) running — freaks out when a huge blackout hits the West Coast on opening day, shutting down hundreds of theaters. He has several priceless encounters with Lloyd, but Jeremy Piven’s first Emmy-worthy moment takes place during an emergency counseling session with his wife. You’ll know you’re there when Ari name-drops Jacko. (And wait until you meet Ari’s new nemesis. It’s so perfect, it’s brilliant.) But the big news comes in Episode 3, when the boys’ entire dynamic is threatened when Vince foolishly welcomes an old friend into his entourage. I say “foolishly” because the newbie manages to rob a store, attack a photographer and hire a prostitute all in the first 15 minutes. No small feat, that.
