Fanning the flames of what some might call an unhealthy obsession with Neil Patrick Harris comes this new promo for his latest hosting gig: THE 64st ANNUAL PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS (airing September 20th on CBS at 8PM). Oh — and while we’re on the subject — there is absolutely no truth to the rumour that the TV Addict is not attending this year’s Emmy Ceremony as a result of some totally unsubstantiated court-ordered restraining order that doesn’t allow us within fifty feet of the actor. We’re just sayin’ Charges may-or-may-not still be pending.
You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have…. the facts of life the 2009 Emmy Nominations! Seriously. For every good (Congratulations HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER!), there is an unfortunate bad (Charlie Sheen) to even things out. Take a look.
The Good: The Academy finally decided to recognize some fresh blood, honoring THE BIG BANG THEORY’s Jim Parsons, 30 ROCK’s Jane Krakowski and BREAKING BAD’s Aaron Paul with much deserved acting nominations. The Bad: We said fresh blood, not true blood, with the hit HBO series only managing to score nods for art direction, casting and main title design.
The Good: The Emmys love dancing. The Bad: DANCING WITH THE STARS that is, which gets a nod over the far superior SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.
The Good: With nominations for Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh, working at Seattle Grace continues to pay dividends. The Bad: Unless of course your names are Kevin McKidd, Justin Chambers, and the always overlooked Patrick Dempsey who if you ask us, deserves a medal of honor for having to put up with Meredith for four seasons.
“I love being in the mix again this year, but am absolutely over the moon about HIMYM’s Best Comedy Series nomination. The only multicamera show in the mix! This kind of recognition is huge for us. Just huge. It should be quite the night. Being asked to host the show—terrific. Getting a third nomination—fantastic. Having the ability to scribble my name in the envelope backstage when no one is looking—priceless.” — said HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER star Neil Patrick Harris on his nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
“I am truly delighted to be nominated, and I’m really looking forward to kicking Tina Fey’s ass.” — said NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE star Julia Louis-Dreyfus on her nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
“I am thrilled to be riding some very nice coat tails right now. We are all floored that the show is getting so much recognition. I blame Tina Fey.” — said 30 ROCK star Jack McBrayer on his nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
1. Words we never expected, and frankly don’t believe belong in the same sentence: ACCORDING TO JIM + EMMY, with the ABC ‘laugher’ scoring a nod for outstanding cinematography for a half-hour series. (Hat Tip: @HitFixDaniel)
2. FAMILY GUY, you know we love you. But an outstanding comedy series nomination over the likes of PUSHING DAISIES, SOUTH PARK, THE SIMPSONS, THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE, and PARTY DOWN… well, not so much.
3. While BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’s intrepid crew of actors getting snubbed is sadly, par for the course come Emmy time, composer Bear McCreary getting snubbed is not and we should add, and Emmy #FAIL of the highest order.
