Teri Hatcher gets desperate for attention is exactly the type of catchy headline I’d use if it wasn’t for such a good cause. But since Hatcher headlining ‘Band From TV’ on Wednesday’s IDOL GIVES BACK benefited six incredibly worthy charities, I’ll just say this. Teri, don’t quit your day job.

As if you have to ask! New episodes of 30 ROCK, THE OFFICE, SCRUBS, ELI STONE in addition to the AMERICAN IDOL result show! Who else is counting down the minutes until 8:30PM tonight. 
Now that I’ve got your attention… [cue maniacal laugh] this TV Addict wanted to take a moment to tell all you Stoners, yes, I’m talking to you, ELI STONE fans that in an effort to attract more eyeballs to the criminally under-watched and current TV Addict favorite, ABC will be airing a very special episode of ELI STONE following Sunday’s highly anticipated return of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. In other words, if ELI STONE doesn’t get picked up for a much deserved second season, it certainly won’t be due to a lack of effort on ABC’s part.
And on a somewhat related note, who’s in charge of the marketing for ABC? Would not “Get Stoned!” have been the coolest, albeit somewhat morally ambiguous marketing slogan for ELI STONE? Seriously? Why is the TV Addict not on someone’s payroll!
Just because LOST is off the air for the next five weeks doesn’t mean you all have to rush out and you know, ‘get a life.’ Here are two shows ‘on the bubble’ that could really use your support tonight.
ELI STONE
Since Victor Garber’s phenomenal sixth episode confrontation with the show’s titular character, ELI STONE has quickly evolved into one of the TV Addict’s favorite new shows of 2008. Throw into the mix last weeks ‘didn’t see that coming’ conclusion to the Jayson Turk trial, the continued development of the show’s supporting players [Matt Dowd, Keith Bennet and Loretta Devine to name a few] and some truly heartfelt moments reminiscent of that other Greg Berlanti gem EVERWOOD and this TV Addict is going to be the one to suffer an aneurism if ABC doesn’t give this show a second season pick-up. I mean ACCORDING TO JIM is on its eighth season! ACCORDING TO JIM!!!
MISS GUIDED
And speaking of shows hoping to get a second season… just because ABC has shown absolutely no confidence in MISS GUIDED by burning off all seven episodes within the span of four weeks doesn’t mean you should miss out on one of your last opportunities to enjoy the fun. The hilarious Judy Greer, not to mention Chris Parnell in his funniest role in years both shine in a full hour of MISS GUIDED starting tonight at 8PM on ABC.
THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE
Julia Louis-Dreyfus doesn’t just put an end to that silly SEINFELD curse. By taking a page from the Will Ferrell book of comedy and doing anything for a laugh, she eviscerates it. From verbal sparring with her ex-husband, to dating a twenty year old, all the while defending herself against television’s two funniest mean mommies [spin-off please!] OLD CHRISTINE is hands down our favorite femme fatale since THE COMEBACK’s Valerie Cherish. Why not help ensure CBS doesn’t trade OLD CHRISTINE for a newer and less funny model next season [see: RULES OF ENGAGEMENT] by tuning into tonight’s brand new episode following the return of TWO AND A HALF MEN at 9:30PM on CBS.
ELI STONE
ELI STONE has something for everyone. It’s the ultimate TV mash-up. Medical mystery, law, order, ghosts, visions, mythology, romance and EVERWOOD alumni Tom Amandes. Heck, it even has a weekly musical number for the few fans old enough to remember COP ROCK. All it needs now is a break. As if having an inoperable brain aneurysm wasn’t bad enough, does Eli really need to find himself unemployed come fall 2008? Show a little compassion by tuning into ELI STONE this Thursday following a brand new episode of LOST at 10PM on ABC.

Okay, I’m not saying I didn’t love last night’s episode of LOST — cause I did, even crying not once but twice thanks to Hurley (please, please, please, someone give Jorge Garcia an Emmy!) — but I truly don’t get the media’s turning last night’s episode into the Second Coming. Let me quote the review USA TODAY ran in its review yesterday: “Returning with a heart-stopping, perfectly pitched episode that fulfills all the promise of last season’s stunner of a finale… blah blah blah.” Okay, I made up the last part, but seriously? Heart-stopping? The writer — Robert Bianco — went on to say the episode was a “tense, emotional outing in which secrets are revealed, questions are answered and — yes, inevitably, new questions are raised.” I’ll give him “tense” and “emotion-filled” but can anyone tell me what secrets were revealed? What answers were given? Cause I’m coming up short in that department. Like I said, I thought it was a good episode (and heck, given the writers strike, it’s almost enough when any show gives me a new episode), but let’s cut back on the superlatives, shall we?
I’m surprised how much I enjoyed the premiere of ELI STONE. I can’t help wondering if this is going to have the legs to remain as wildly entertaining over the long-haul, but for now, it’s a pleasant enough diversion. The quick pace, fun visuals and quirky dialogue (”For a guy with auditory hallucinations, you sure are judgemental!”) were exactly what I look for in a show. (Throw in an imaginary dance number and I’m yours forever!) And the leading man couldn’t be more appealing. Jonny Lee Miller is handsome in a non-threatening way that allows actual the actual everyman to see himself in this fictionalized version of himself. And for the record, I will watch anything featuring my favorite sassy lady, Loretta Devine. Too bad the advertising department gave away one one of the funniest bits in the pilot. Imagine how funny the revelation that George Michael was providing the soundtrack to Eli’s new life would have been if we hadn’t already known thanks to endless ads? That said, although I entered with skepticism, STONE has definitely carved itself out a place in my heart.
Thanks to the phenomenal fourth season premiere of LOST (Can next Thursday come any sooner?), the return of SUPERNATURAL (How much fun were the Wisteria Lane Witches?) and the immensely entertaining first episode of ELI STONE (It’s EVERWOOD/ALLY McBEAL in a Lawyer’s office!) last night was a return to form for the night formerly known as Must See TV. Agree, Disagree, put your critics hat on and post away!
