Catch the Final Episodes of DRIVE Online

July 12th, 2007

Looking to catch the final two episodes of DRIVE? Get ready to start your engines… or more specifically, your DSL connection. Turns out, thanks to FOX’s scheduling ‘brilliance’, the only highway you’ll be able to catch DRIVE on is the information superhighway. Starting July 16, DRIVE will be available online at myspace.com/fox and FOX affiliate websites.

Two episodes not enough for you? Wishing you could have learned what twists and turns were in store for our intrepid racers assuming FOX bothered to support and/or promote this entertaining little series. Head on over to drivefans.com for a fantastic wrap up interview with executive producers Tim Minear and Craig Silverstein. Thanks again FOX for denying television fans one helluva exciting ride.

DRIVE UPDATE FOR CANADIAN FANS: According to a representative at CTV, the Canadian Television Network has no plans to air the final episodes of DRIVE on their CTV Broadband network. So if you’re north of the border, it looks like you’re pretty much out of luck.

Random TV Tidbits for a Tuesday

May 8th, 2007

Our friends over at TVSeriesFinale.com are reporting today that FOX has announced that they will burn off the final two unaired episodes of DRIVE on July 4th, one of the least-watched nights of television all year long. Not only is this a sure sign that DRIVE’S been parked for good, it also signifies that the show has absolutely zero chance of coming back next season. Which begs the question, who do you think was going to win the race?

Acording to a resent studee by Columbia University, statistiks show that adolesents who watch too much TV develop learning problems and are less likely to go to university. In response to this study — all we at theTVaddict.com could muster up was one word — D’OH (translation: why didn’t someone alert us to the effects of television addiction sooner!)

Was anyone else incredibly disappointed by last night’s episode of HEROES? Talk about a massive set-up for the final two chapters of the season. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for saving the world, but after spending an hour with Sylar’s mom, I sort of see what drove the guy crazy.

Fox Throws DRIVE Under The Bus

April 25th, 2007

According to TVGuide’s Michael Ausiello, FOX’s race-themed DRIVE won’t be crossing the finish line. He reports that after only three episodes, the show has been pulled from the rotation, although there’s a chance the remaining two unaired episodes may yet see the light of day. All of which means… yup, FOX screwed us again. Anybody remember a little show called REUNION? You know, the one which followed an unfolding murder mystery over the span of so years… until it was prematurely killed? Did anyone at the network stop to think that perhaps nobody tuned in to DRIVE — their latest serialized saga — out of fear that it would never cross the finish line? The nets need to stop expecting viewers to take a chance on shows with continuing storylines unless they guarantee us — up front — that we’ll get a pay-off. Each and every time they prematurely send a series to that great junkyard in the sky, they give us another reason to avoid similar future offerings. Commitment is a two-way street, fellas. That’s all we’re sayin’.

Random TV Tidbits for a Tuesday

April 17th, 2007

GILMORE GIRLS finally returns tonight with a brand new episode after what seems like an eternity. Frankly it says a lot about the show this season that I have yet to watch the last new episode that aired. What will you be watching tonight — GILMORE GIRLS or IDOL? Sadly, I think I’ll be watching the latter (don’t worry, I’m PVRing GILMORE).

Is there any character on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES more annoying than Tom Scavo? How on earth does Lynette put up with his incessant whining? Perhaps she should take a page from Betty Applewhite’s book and lock him in the basement.

Unbeknownst to me, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER was a repeat last night. But it turns out the “Swarley” episode is just as funny the second time.

I should have known better than to fall in love with a FOX drama right off the bat. DRIVE opened to less than stellar numbers on Sunday, garnering a mere six million viewers for its two hour premiere. Will FOX show patience with the Tim Minear vehicle? Or yank it off the highway like they did with PROFIT, REUNION, FIREFLY, WONDERFALLS et al? Stay Tuned.

Anyone else get a sense of deja vu while watching last night’s episode of the KING OF QUEENS? Doug turning smart for an episode was eerily similar to Homer Simpson jumping a few hundred IQ points a few years back. Perhaps the writer’s took the Kevin James/Homer Simpson comparison a touch too far this time.

Obsessed with DRIVE

drive bumber sticker

How much is the TV Addict enjoying DRIVE? So much so that I’m already making plans to super-charge my nine year old Volkswagon Golf just in case I receive a mysterious cell phone invitation to join the race. Okay, not quite, but I did design a nifty little bumper sticker to give me a built-in excuse to drive like a maniac on the higway! Check it out by clicking here. And I’ll see you at the finish line B*tch (sorry, that’s my DRIVE smack talk going a bit overboard).

Amrie’s Take on TV: DRIVE

April 17th, 2007

So I just got finished watching the third hour of Drive.

I have to say, I’m still really intrigued. I want to see what’s going to happen with these characters, and what it all means. One of our loyal readers commented today (hi Frank!) that he was more interested in the race than the goings-on in the lives of our racers. Or at least the life of Alex Tully (Nathan Fillion’s character). I have to say that on one level, I agree with him. Up until the last 10 minutes of tonight’s episode, as much as I love Fillion, I wasn’t interested in his character’s back-story as much as maybe I should have been (what, with him getting first billing, and all of that), but I’m completely drawn into his story line now, and I cannot wait to see what happens next week. It, of course, gets me thinking – what characters do I want to know more about, who am I rooting for?

theTVaddict Readers Respond to DRIVE

April 16th, 2007

Critics be damned! Here’s what the only people that matter — the audience (specifically the brilliant and good-looking readers of theTVaddict.com) — had to say about last night’s premiere of DRIVE on FOX.

Flutie: Wow… that was some good television. I thought it had a good mix of action, comedy and drama…. really sets up nicely. I’m intrigued, and will definitely stick around for this race… That camera work was impressive, and the opening scene had me hooked.

DaSally: Alright, I’m hooked. I was pleasantly surprised that the show kept my attention throughout the two hour span.

Amrie: I’m really looking forward to tomorrow night’s episode. I love when a show has a great new premise!

Cathy: I tuned into this show solely to see Nathan Fillion, who I loved in Firefly. I stuck around for the whole two hours of the premiere because it was nicely done, very exciting and suspenseful. I love the shots that zero in from a satellite view to a specific spot on the Earth. I’ve enjoyed most of the characters so far as well. The solution of “eliminating one driver” was very satisfying — I probably would have quit watching right then and there if the girl had been killed instead.

Be sure to tune into the third episode airing in its regular timeslot, tonight on FOX at 8PM. Missed the premiere, you can catch it online at myspace.com/fox.

DRIVE Premieres Tonight on FOX at 8PM

April 15th, 2007

FOX’s much anticipated new action-fueled drama DRIVE premieres tonight on FOX at 8PM. While critics around the country are mixed as to the series chances of success, theTVaddict loved the first two hours and is confident that if given the chance, say a mere ten minutes, you’ll love it to. Aintitcool News agrees:

Darkly funny, exciting and loaded with plot twists and intriguing characters, “Drive” reunites the great writer-director-producer Tim Minear (“The X-Files,” “Angel,” “Wonderfalls,” “The Inside”) and Nathan Fillion (“Serenity,” “Slither”), who previously collaborated to gratifying effect on “Firefly.”

As the “Alias,” “24” and “Lost” pilots did, the “Drive” opener generates fascinating questions aplenty – and will leave audiences hungering for answers long after its two-hour introduction concludes. (Happily, a third hour airs Monday.)

Following tonight’s premiere, check back with theTVaddict.com and let us know if you agree.

Random TV Tidbits for a Friday

April 13th, 2007

My fellow Canadians… I have a dream. That you all tune into the two-hour premiere of DRIVE tonight at 8PM on CTV. By tuning in, let’s help ensure DRIVE doesn’t get the shabby treatment that CTV is famous for (see: VERONICA MARS, EVERWOOD and NIP/TUCK).

Yesterday, NBC announced the premiere dates for its ‘exciting’ summer schedule. Starting May 29, returning favourites such as AMERICA’S GOT TALENT, LAST COMIC STANDING and THE BIGGEST LOSER join the new Reality Dating Series AGE OF LOVE on the Peakock’s schedule. That click you hear in the background is the sound of theTVaddict switching off NBC until Fall 2008.

You’d think the fourth place network would try a little harder to keep viewers from flocking elsewhere. Here’s an idea. How about a night of cancelled shows? STUDIO 60, KIDNAPPED and THE BLACK DONNELLYS. Give us fans a chance for some closure.

Tired of all the controversy surrounding E! Online’s Save One Show Campaign? Why not check out BuzzSugar’s hilarious Stop One Show Poll. My vote goes to MEDIUM as theTVaddict won’t rest until every single Arquette is unemployed. Yes, you heard me David, you’re next.

Finally, in thisTVaddict’s opinion — the only acceptable winner on tonight’s episode of ACCEPTABLE TV should be Operation Kitten Calendar 2. Nothing says funny like super-model cats.

Watch the First Four Minutes of DRIVE

April 12th, 2007

Can’t wait until Sunday’s two-hour premiere? Desperate for a Nathan Fillion fix? Get ready to start your engines! Courtesy of Yahoo TV, you can now watch the first four minutes of FOX’s newest action-fueled drama DRIVE.

But fellow TV Addict’s beware. If your TiVo is perilously close to maximum capacity and you’re susceptible to getting hooked on hour long dramas, this preview is definitely not for you! I repeat, if you can’t make room in your schedule for DRIVE, don’t you dare click here. Having seen the pilot, I can guarantee you one thing. Fasten your seat belts, ’cause you’re in for an addictive ride!
