August 28th, 2009

csi laurence fishburne jorja fox

With ratings for CSI down last season, one of the big stories to come out of CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler’s press conference at the recent TCA Press Tour was that the team behind CSI had a plan to turn things around. That plan: Get William Peterson replacement Laurence Fishburne a wardrobe makeover, and stat! And here with your first look at said makeover, plus the return of CSI alum Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) is theTVaddict.com, with a publicity still from CSI’s 10th season premiere titled “Family Affair.”

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
UGLY BETTY (8PM ABC, CityTV in Canada)
If it’s sweeps, it must be time for wedding fever! Which explains why there are not one but two proposals tonight.

SMALLVILLE (8PM CW)
When Tess and Lois clash, expect the unexpected. The eight-season finale also features Oliver stepping in when Clark seems kinda reluctant to kill Doomsday.

PARKS & RECREATION (8:30PM NBC, 9PM CityTV in Canada)
Frankly, I don’t think you should be able to tout something as a “season” finale unless you’ve aired at least 13 episodes, but hey, that’s just me. Anyway, this disappointing series — which managed to pick up a renewal for no reason other than it’s pedigree — wraps up with Andy’s first gig since he broke his legs in the pit. (That probably means something to the four of you still watching.)

GREY’S ANATOMY (9PM ABC, CTV in Canada)
The two-hour, fifth-season finale might just as well be called “Will They Or Won’t They?” as Izzie decides whether to have surgery, Mark decides what to do with Lexie and Bailey finds out whether or not she’ll be accepted into a pediatrics fellowship.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
UGLY BETTY (8PM ABC, City in Canada)
The Karate Kid turns to Hilda for help in his run for office, while a member of the Meade dynasty is kidnapped even as Mode’s fate hangs in the balance.

PARKS AND RECREATION (8:30PM NBC, 9PM City in Canada)
Leslie makes a lasting impression at a banquet honoring her mom. Not a good one, mind you…

GREY’ S ANATOMY (9PM ABC, CTV in Canada)
Remember when the Chief’s niece was hospitalized before her prom back in season 2? Tonight, it’s a group of college students who wind up at Seattle Grace following a car accident that occurs on the way to their graduation ceremony. On, and there’s much, much talk of Meredith and Derek’s upcoming wedding.

THE OFFICE (9PM NBC, Global in Canada)
You know, if there’s one person on this planet you’d expect not to know that disco is dead, it’s Michael Scott. Tonight, he proves that to be the case by bringing dance music to the office.

SUPERNATURAL (9PM CW)
The apocalypse is coming! The apocalypse is coming! Unfortunately, Sam’s kinda tied up, what with having to detox from demon blood and all.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
UGLY BETTY (8PM ABC, City in Canada)
In honor of UGLY BETTY returning to ABC tonight after a far too long five week hiatus, this TV Addict thought, who better to get to tease tonight’s episode than Michael Urie himself; Who was kind, nay, awesome enough to send this direct tweet to theTVaddict, “She’s back! Betty’s all new! Marc gets into Christina’s sex life! What?! How?! Why?! Directed by Richard Heus (dir of Mode After Hours).”

PARKS AND RECREATION (8PM ABC, City in Canada)
Andy (Chris Pratt) plans a surprise for Ann (Rashida Jones). One which probably doesn’t involve picking up and moving to a small Colorado town called Everwood. But hey, a TV Addict can dream, can’t he?

THE OFFICE (9PM NBC, Global in Canada)
While we’re not really sure what to expect from the denizens of Dunder Mifflin on “Casual Friday,” we’re kinda hoping it involves Dwight Schrute and some sort of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Raptor uniform. So say we all?

GREY’S ANATOMY (9PM ABC, CTV in Canada)
Sharon Lawrence continues to corner the market on unstable TV moms (see: PRIVILEGED, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES and HIDDEN PALMS) by dropping by Seattle Grace to check up on her daughter Izzie.

30 ROCK (9:30PM NBC, City in Canada)
Do you really need to know anything else outside of the fact that tonight’s episode has Jenna adopting a monkey? If so here are two more reasons why tonight’s 30 ROCK is the very definition of must see TV: Elaine Stritch returns with nasty memories of Jack’s father and Steve Buscemi guest stars.

PRIVATE PRACTICE (10PM ABC, “A” in Canada)
PRIVATE PRACTICE’s much improved second season concludes with so many questions up in the air (Will Naomi leave Oceanside? Will Violet choose Pete or Sheldon? Will Addison sort our her feelings for Noah?) that we’re already cleaning our floor in anticipation of our jaw dropping down to it.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
IN THE MOTHERHOOD (8PM ABC, CityTV in Canada)
Emily and Jason fear that their son’s imaginary friend might be something of a troublemaker. My family went through something similar when my folks began to suspect that Little Lord Soggybottom, my foppish imaginary friend, was plotting to bring down the government. All I know is Soggybottom was sent to live on a mysterious farm with our dog, Benji, and was never heard from again.

PARKS & RECREATION (8:30PM NBC, CityTV in Canada)
The pilot didn’t blow me away, but I’m willing to give another shot to anything that puts Amy Pohler on the screen. Tonight, her alter ego, Leslie, goes door-to-door in the hope of building support for her latest project.

THE OFFICE (9PM NBC)
This show has taken a very unfunny turn of late, but one thing that definitely works is the relationship between Jim and Charles. It’s easy to see how the behavior we’ve found charming in Jim over the years would be viewed completely differently by a corporate type. Tonight, Dwight decides to become Charles’ new best bud.

30 ROCK (9:30PM NBC, CityTV in Canada)
With film execs considering pulling the plugs on Jenna’s Janis Joplin project, she and Jack work to stir up some buzz. And Liz? She’s going a little bit nuts thanks to her forced suspension.

HARPER’S ISLAND (10PM CBS, Global in Canada)
The wedding party goes on a scavenger hunt, but what they’re likely to find is another body! This fun romp is officially my favorite show of the spring season. (At least until GLEE launches in May!)

SOUTHLAND (10PM NBC, CTV in Canada)
An abandoned baby stirs up memories of the past in Lydia, while Bryant and Moretta take unusual steps to protect a young woman.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
ER Retrospective (8PM NBC)
A look back at the dizzying highs (Dr. Ross rescues a boy caught in a storm drain) and ludicrous lows (anytime one of the Doc’s ventured off on a very special road trip) from ER’s 15 seasons.

ER (9PM NBC, CTV in Canada)
Old friends from County show up to support Carter as he opens a new medical facility for Chicago’s less fortunate. Which is kinda funny when you consider that when ER premiered 15 years ago, County General was the hospital for Chicago’s less fortunate, with anyone who had any money going to CHICAGO HOPE.

SUPERNATURAL (9PM CW)
If Sam and Dean are surprised to discover that their lives as demon hunters are accurately detailed in a series of “Supernatural comic books,” just imagine what their reaction will be when they stumble upon what the online community affectionally calls “Wincest.”

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
SCRUBS (8PM ABC)
The funniest comedy you’re not watching — because ABC decided to hold off on new episodes for the better part of two months only to bring it back with little-to-no-fan-fare on a completely different day and time — returns tonight. But hey, we’re not bitter. Really.

THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE (8PM ABC)
Maybe now that television’s funniest two mean mommies have finally gone into labor, someone at CBS can get their act together and develop a Marly and Lindsay spin-off.

BETTER OF TED (8:30PM ABC)
BETTER OF TED has the advantage of debuting as just the right time: when viewer’s wouldn’t mind reveling in corporate comeuppance. It’s big business satire anchored by more-moral-than-his-employers straight arrow Ted (Jay Harrington, channeling Jon Hamm, except with boyish charm), head of research and development for Veridian Dynamics, a company responsible for weaponizing pumpkins and freezing its employees on a whim. Stocked with a top-notch cast (particularly Arrested Development’s Portia De Rossi as Ted’s icy, tight-laced boss), it bares the same potential of so many failed ABC comedies: it’s funny enough, but inconsistent — it needs time it probably won’t get to find its footing. — Aleks Chan

LOST (9PM ABC, “A” in Canada)
Kate returns to the island just in time to ruin Sawyer and Juliet’s happily ever after… awwwwwkward.

DAMAGES (10PM FX)
Call us a stickler for details, but we’re fairly certain that the official episode description should say, “Ellen discovers a another dark secret about Patty’s personal life.”

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
UGLY BETTY (8PM ABC, City in Canada)
Wilhelmina headed for the poor house? Who wouldn’t tune in to see that! As an added bonus, Christine Baranski guests as Matt’s mom, and Hilda goes on a date with Ralph Macchio. It’s almost TOO much goodness!

SMALLVILLE (8PM CW)
Remember when Tori Spelling was nice-girl Donna? Well not any more! As reporter Linda Lake, she’s blackmailing Clark in an attempt to regain her journalistic mojo. “Frak that!” says Clark, who instead outs himself to Lois!

GREY’S ANATOMY (9PM ABC, CTV in Canada)
After finally realizing that a whole hell of a lot of his patients wind up biting the dust, Derek decides to quit. Frankly, that makes sense to us. I mean, once they stop calling you McDreamy and start calling you Doctor Death, it’s all over but the singing.

THE OFFICE (9PM NBC, Global in Canada)
Michael’s latest scheme involves placing “Golden Tickets” — ala Willy Wonka — inside paper packages. Anyone else suspect this won’t end well? Meanwhile, Kevin’s out to woo a woman, so his co-workers offer him some advice. Um… anyone else suspect this won’t end well, either?

SUPERNATURAL (9PM CW)
Baby, don’t fear the reaper. Especially now that all the reapers have gone missing, allowing people to literally cheat death! Sam and Dean journey to the netherworld (insert spooky sounds here) to find out what the heck’s going on.

30 ROCK (9:30PM NBC, City in Canada)
Liz has jury duty, which means the staff of TGS has no babysitter. Wacky chaos ensues.

PRIVATE PRACTICE (10PM ABC)
Pete and Sheldon want Violet to take a paternity test. And who can blame them? Meanwhile, Sam commits the ultimate boyfriend sin when he calls his current girlfriend by his ex-wife’s name… while in bed. Yeah, that’s bad.

ER (10PM ABC, E! in Canada)
Thanks to a cavalcade of original series stars including Eriq La Salle, Julianne Marguilies and he-who-shall-not-be-named returning to Country General tonight, we officially give-in! Seriously NBC, you win. We’re back on the ER bandwagon.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
UGLY BETTY (8PM ABC, CityTV in Canada)
As if lifted directly from that very special episode of SCRUBS with Clay AIken, Ignacio signs up for a cook-off with a TV chef when the Suarez family try to scrape together enough money to buy their home after the landlord decides to put it on the market.

THE OFFICE (9PM NBC, Global in Canada)
In a poorly timed Valentine’s Day episode, Michael meets an enigmatic lady at a blood drive while Pam and Jim share an uncomfortable lunch with Phyllis and Bon Vance.

30 ROCK (9:30PM NBC, CityTV in Canada)
Jenna pushes for more attention as her birthday approaches, which we’re going to go out on a limb and say involves a whole lotta singing.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
UGLY BETTY (8PM ABC, CityTV in Canada)
Daniel’s got a new lady. Wilhelmina’s got a new guy. But both are going to face big problems tonight. Meanwhile, Betty’s attempt to put together a fitting tribute for Claire’s 60th birthday party might wind up putting someone else in the spotlight!

GREY’S ANATOMY (9PM ABC, CTV in Canada)
In case you’ve been living under a rock (or busy kevetching about that woman who had eight babies and is now asking people to send her money so she can support them!), there’s a big crossover event tonight revolving around Addison’s brother, Archer (played by guest star Grant Show). We suspect the best part of this will be the chance to watch Meredith bristle as McDreamy works closely with his trampy ex-wife.

GREY’S ANATOMY/PRIVATE PRACTICE (9PM ABC, CTV in Canada)
In case you’ve been living under a rock (or busy kevetching about that woman who had eight babies and is now asking people to send her money so she can support them!), there’s a big crossover event tonight revolving around Addison’s brother, Archer (played by guest star Grant Show). We suspect the best part of this will be the chance to watch Meredith bristle as McDreamy works closely with his trampy ex-wife.

THE OFFICE (9PM NBC)
Michael’s road trip continues. But since he’s become so wildly annoying as to be unfunny, let’s focus on what else is going on. Apparently, Angela’s new cat causes a bit of an uproar, while Dwight and Jim’s attempt at party planning is… well, do we need to even finish that sentence?

30 ROCK (9:30PM NBC, CityTV in Canada)
Oh, Liz Lemon. Will you never learn? The poor girl has decided her first date with Drew (aka Jon Hamm of MAD MEN) should be on Valentine’s Day! Yeah, no pressure there!
