Good News, Bad News: JIMMY FALLON, CHUCK, NUMB3RS & FAMILY GUY

May 1st, 2009

Good News: According to the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), Jimmy Fallon’s LATE NIGHT is the greenest late night show on television. Bad News: We’re fairly confident Jimmy was aiming for funniest. D’oh! [Source]

Good News: Variety is reporting that NBC is this close to picking up CHUCK for a third season. Bad News: We have a feeling this report marks the first of what will be numerous articles citing ‘inside’ sources leading up to NBC’s official announcement on Monday. So CHUCK fans, brace yourself. [Source]

Good News: NUMB3RS, the surprise CBS procedural hit is celebrating 100 episodes this May. Bad News: To uncover the amount of NUMB3RS episodes this TV Addict has actually watched, subtract 100 from the number of episodes NUMB3RS is celebrating. [Source]

Good News, Bad News: SCRUBS, CHUCK & THE HILLS

April 28th, 2009

Good News: Talks are said to be heating up between Bill Lawrence and ABC to bring back SCRUBS for a ninth season. Bad News: It remains to be seen if Sacred Heart will be able to withstand only occasional visits by commitment phobic Zach Braff and co-stars John C McGinley, Donald Faison and Neil Flynn who have already committed to new high profile pilots currently in development. [Source]

Good News: Lauren Conrad has finally made good on her promise to exit THE HILLS. Bad News: Which means expect even more screen time for media whores Heidi and Spencer when season five returns in the fall. [Source]

Good News: CHUCK creator Josh Schwartz tells TVGuide.com that the “#savechuck campaign that started on the blogs and with the critics and with the fans, on Facebook and Twitter has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life to witness.” Bad New: An awesome campaign didn’t exactly translate into a bump in the ratings, with there being almost no discernible difference between CHUCK’s numbers week-to-week. CHUCK Season Finale: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

April 28th, 2009

chuck

The Good: Like all great season finales, last night’s CHUCK capper managed to give every character a moment in the spotlight. (1) Morgan got to do his best to help save the day as an, “unofficial member of the wedding party.” (2) Jeffster! rocked the house and in doing so managed to cleverly cover up a Chuck vs. Fulcrum showdown in the adjacent banquet hall. (3) Ryan McPartlin’s delivered a… [wait for it]… awesome reaction upon learning the wedding was delayed due to Chuck being MIA. (4) Ellie tried to calm her nerves with Yoga, and then later in the tub with a bottle of champagne. (5) Casey got to play wedding planner and demonstrated his true loyalty to Chuck by giving him his digits with the one caveat being that in true Casey fashion, “your fingers better be on fire when you’re dialing.” (6) Sarah choose Chuck over Bryce! (7) And of course, our titular hero realized that he is in fact the one a hero… and oh yeah, that he knows Kung Fu! Which brings us to…

The Bad: Which is not so much of a ‘bad’ as a concern. Because as uber-critic Alan Sepinwall so correctly pointed out, “[Josh] Schwartz and [Chris] Fedak have enough credit banked that I’m going to assume they know what they’re doing in fundamentally altering the main character in this way.” That said, one of the big appeals of both CHUCK the show and the character has always been that our favorite nerd-herder was a seemingly average guy thrown into an extraordinary situation (think: HEROES, before it went downhill!) And that as ridiculous as his surrounding seemed to get, Chuck almost always remained the sane and one we could relate to. That is until last night’s jaw-dropper of an ending that had Chuck download the new and improved Intersect Version 2.0 into his head giving him the ability to kick some serious bad guy butt. Begging the question, how exactly will this affect the show going forward? Which of course, brings us to…

Tonight’s TV Addictions: April 27, 2009

April 27th, 2009

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
THE BIG BANG THEORY (8PM CBS, CTV in Canada)
Just how funny is tonight’s installment of THE BIG BANG THEORY which this TV Addict had the pleasure of seeing at Paley Fest ‘09? Here’s all you need to know: Hookers! Hotels! and Howard (Wolowitz)

CHUCK (8PM NBC, CityTV in Canada)
In the season 2 finale, yes NBC, you heard us correctly — SEASON finale — Chuck must spring into action on Ellie and Awesome’s wedding day to save his sister from evil Fulcrum forces and Steve Jobs wannabe Ted Roark (Chevy Chase).

GOSSIP GIRL (8PM CW)
Georgina Sparks (Michelle Trachtenberg) returns. Her mission: To liven up tonight’s been-there-done-that rivalry between Chuck and Nate for Blair’s affection.

HEROES (9PM NBC, 10PM Global in Canada)
It’s Nathan versus Sylar in this third season finale and we have a feeling that unlike season one, a parking meter isn’t gonna do Sylar in (or at least we hope it won’t.)

Tonight’s TV Addictions: Monday April 20, 2009

April 20th, 2009

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
CASTLE (10PM ABC)
The death of a socialite leads to Beckett attending a charity ball as Castle’s date. Talk about finding a way to turn a frown upside down!

CHUCK (8PM ABC)
Scott Bakula returns as Chuck’s dad, who finds himself in need of rescue. As if that weren’t enough, Chevy Chase also puts in an appearance and Morgan becomes a Buy More outcast.

GOSSIP GIRL (8PM CW)
If Serena returns from Spain still moping about Dan, I will personally slap her. Hard. Meanwhile, Blair might just prove herself the self-sabotage queen when she makes a secret pact behind new beau Nate’s back. And expect mugging and eye-rolling galore when Dan winds up having to literally serve his rich peers.

NEW & NOTABLE:
THE BIG BANG THEORY (8PM CBS)
Yes, it’s a rerun, but it also offers valuable help in solving one of life’s biggest mysteries as Sheldon tries to figure out gift-giving etiquette.

April 13th, 2009

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
THE BIG BANG THEORY (8PM CBS, CTV in Canada)
Ugly Betty’s first beau, Kevin Sussman decides to step up his game and romance Penny.

CHUCK (8PM NBC, CityTV in Canada)
If CHUCK does get the ax, it certainly won’t be due to a lack of promotable guest stars. Tonight, Chuck looks to his double-crossing ex-girlfriend Jill (Jordana Brewster) to help rescue his father (Scott Bakula) who has been abducted by Fulcrum forces (Chevy Chase). Meanwhile, at the Buy More, the nerd herd tries to derail a corporate evaluation supervised by Emmett (ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT’s Tony Hale)

GREEK (8PM ABC Family)
Casey wants Max and Cappie to get along, so she seeks advice from special guest star Janeane Garofalo. Who, you know, has a great track record at getting along with people (see: Bill O’Reilly)

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (8:30PM CBS, E! in Canada)
Have you met Ted’s new intern? Well, you will tonight when he sets up his very own architectural firm in his apartment.

CASTLE (10PM ABC)
It’s the case of yet another killer with little-to-no imagination who quite literally takes a page from one of Castle’s best-selling books. This time, it’s a ritualistic killing that draws Beckett and Castle into the world of Vodun, a mysterious religion Castle researched for a previous book.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
CHUCK (8PM NBC, CityTV in Canada)
With THE BIG BIG BANG THEORY, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and GOSSIP GIRL all airing old episodes tonight, it’s CHUCK versus the REPEATS. Which means you really have no excuse not to tune into tonight’s brand new episode that has Chuck coming face-to-face with his TV dad played by Scott Bakula.

GREEK (8PM ABC Family)
When Casey and Ashleigh begin to doubt Rebecca’s work as a mole and suspect that she may be a double agent for Frannie, we begin to wonder if the GREEK writers may have spent a little too much time watching 24 on their hiatus.

SURVIVING SUBURBIA (9:30PM ABC, CityTV in Canada)
If Bob Saget wanted to distance himself from his roots on FULL HOUSE, he sure succeeded: he’s gone from in-over-his-head doting father to a cad of a ne’er do well husband. That wouldn’t be so bad if SURVIVING SUBURBIA wasn’t like every mid-’90s sitcom that already ended (or was canceled). Perhaps Saget should stick to stand-up and his narrator gig on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, both of which are far funnier than this. — Aleks Chan

CASTLE (10PM ABC)
A woman found frozen at a construction side leads Beckett and Castle to reopen a cold case. COLD CASE, really? You’d think a best-selling author like Richard Castle would know a thing or two about plagiarism, we’re just sayin’

March 23rd, 2009

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (8PM CBS)
Barney and Marshall concoct and elaborate lie to protect Ted from finding out that he’s lost an important job. Or as we’re calling it, “How Ted Met the Economic Crisis.”

CHUCK (8PM NBC, CityTV in Canada)
ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT Alum Alert! Tony Hale returns to wage war again the stuffy Buy More Beverly Hills. Hilarity no doubt ensues.

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT (9:30PM CBS)
If Russell (David Space) really wants to get rid of his one-night stand, why not just pop in one of his old movies. Trust us, five minutes of Joe Blow will be all it will take to get rid of any unwelcome guests.

CASTLE (10PM ABC)
Castle has concerns about leaving Martha at home. Dude, that’s what locks on liquor cabinets are for.

March 9th, 2009

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
THE BIG BANG THEORY (8PM CBS, CTV in Canada)
Nerd Alert! Nobel Prize-winning astrophysicist Dr. George Smoot makes a cameo appearance. Oh, and some girl named Summer something-or-other also drops by [see pic]

DANCING WITH THE STARS (8PM ABC, E! in Canada)
Two Words: Vote WOZ!

CHUCK (8PM NBC, CityTV in Canada)
While Sarah and Casey hunt down another baddie, Chuck Bartowski remains holed up in a safety bunker with Clive Owen wannabe Agent Cole Barker (Jonathan Cake)

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (8:30PM CBS, E! in Canada)
Direct off a two season stint on OCTOBER ROAD (also known as, How I Met Your Father), the always radiant Laura Prepon beings a multi-episode arc as Ted’s old college girlfriend.

CASTLE (10M ABC)
Does the immensely likable Nathan Fillion finally get the starring vehicle he so richly deserves? Click here for our review.

NEW & NOTABLE:
HEROES (9PM NBC, 10PM Global in Canada)
“Sylar… I am your father,” would be the first words out of special guest star John Glover’s mouth if we wrote HEROES. We’re just sayin’

WILL WORK FOR FOOD (9:30PM Food)
So to will we, assuming that food is In-N-Out Burger or Pinkberry.

Tonight’s TV Addictions: March 2, 2009

March 2nd, 2009

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
THE BIG BANG THEORY (8PM CBS)
That big bang you just heard was Wolowitz finally getting some action.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (8:30PM CBS)
How is this for huge news? On tonight’s very special episode, we guarantee you’ll meet a mother. Not the mother mind you, but a mother nonetheless.

CHUCK (8PM NBC)
Since quality storytelling and the most likable cast on television has done little to attract America’s attention, who are we to blame co-creators Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak for tonight’s shameless stunt casting of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model Brooklyn Decker.

NEW & NOTABLE:
24 (8PM FOX, Global in Canada)
With Jack continuing to root out conspirators inside the government, Agent Walker leading the investigation on the ground and the villainous Jonas Hodges (Jon Voight) exacerbating the situation, are we the only ones who regret having jumped off the 24 bandwagon six episodes ago?

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT (9:30PM CBS)
Tonight’s third season opener is entitled “Russell’s Secret.” Which we can only imagine is one helluva doozy considering he’s managed to keep this series on the air for three seasons.

SAVING GRACE (10PM TNT)
A sure sign March Sweeps has arrived is when serial special guest star Christina Ricci (GREY’S ANATOMY, ALLY MCBEAL, JOEY) arrives on the scene for the first of a three episode guest arc.
