Why HBO decided to post this video now, when BIG LOVE’s third season has been pushed back to September, well, we’re not exactly sure. But on the off chance you miss the Henrickson clan as much as this TV Addict does, you’ll undoubtedly enjoy this quick refresher that squeezes two seasons of BIG LOVE into four minutes.
While the focus of this site is predominantly on American television, every so often this proud-to-be-Canadian TV Addict likes to take a moment to highlight some of the must see TV that makes its way North of the 49th parallel.
When it comes to tonight’s series premiere of DAMAGES, one thing is for certain. You may inititally tune into the show for Glenn Close’s Golden Globe winning performance as morally ambiguous legal beagle Patty Hewes. But you’ll stick around thanks to a stellar supporting cast (or more specifically to watch Ted Danson prove there’s life after CHEERS) and enough twists and turns that you’ll soon be scratching your head and wondering whether you’re watching LOST in a courtroom. (DAMAGES airs on Mondays at 10PM on Showcase)\
JOHN FROM CINCINNATI
Raise your hand if have absolutely no idea what last night’s premiere of JOHN FROM CINCINNATI was about.
Raise your hand if you’re so confused by Papa Yost’s inexplicable ability to levitate himself off the ground that you may actually give this series another chance.
Raise your hand if you don’t even care what’s going on, but are now really inspired to learn how to surf.
2007 TONY AWARDS
Raise your hand if you’re annoyed that CBS didn’t pony up the money to broadcast last night’s Tony Awards in High Definition.
Raise your hand if you think SPRING AWAKENING is the most over-hyped Broadway musical ever and you don’t understand (because you’re not fourteen) why exactly watching teeangers embrace their sexuality has been hailed as the ’second-coming of the modern musical?
BIG LOVE
Raise your hand if you’re excited for tonight’s long awaited return of BIG LOVE?
Raise your hand if you actually started to raise you hand while reading this post.
Raise your hand if your co-workers are starting to stare.
Just thought I’d remind everyone, tonight is the season finale of HBO’s addicting drama BIG LOVE. According to the press release:
Bill and Joey blindside Roman at a UEB Priesthood Council meeting, turning the tables on the Prophet-but will their triumph be short-lived? Wanda’s bad habits resurface during a visit from Alby; Adaleen puts an abrupt end to Rhonda’s thespian sabbatical; Nicki’s family allegiances are put to the test; and Barb seizes the spotlight during the Mother of the Year award ceremony at the governor’s mansion.
All I know is that BIG LOVE has enthralled me since the series premiere. I love watching Bill, Margene, Nicki and Barb struggle to maintain some semblance of normalcy in their everyday lives as ’secret’ polygamists in Utah. I can’t wait to see Bill finally gain the upper hand against the incredibly evil (and fun to watch) Roman Grant.
Firstly, BIG LOVE lends itself to so many catchy titles (see above!). Secondly, I just finished watching episode 6 of BIG LOVE, I’m loving the show more and more. It’s amazing how I can feel so bad for all three wives, while at the same time think they’re all a bit nuts. Poor Margene, she’s way too lonely, which is going to definitely be leading to something highly inappropriate with her ’son’ Ben. Nikki, as psycho as she appears to be, must feel constantly demoralized being the second wife. It must suck to never get to actually acknowledge that she’s married to Bill. Finally Barb, it was really nice to learn more about her sickness, and how Nikki essentially nursed her back to health. A final thought on the show. How is it that he Henrickson’s lawn doesn’t have grass? Doesn’t Bill own two massive home stores? What’s the deal?
According to Variety, HBO has greenlit another season of BIG LOVE. According to HBO entertainment president Carolyn Strauss, “‘Big Love’ has a really unique premise that we felt wasn’t just gimmicky, It’s striking a chord with viewers and critics, so it was a fairly uncomplicated decision to move forward.” Personally, I’m thrilled with this news, as I’m loving BIG LOVE’s unique storyline and fabulous acting.
I know I’m on a bit of a post rampage today, but frankly, it’s raining outside and I have nothing interesting to do except work or catch up on TV (what would you choose?). I just finished watching episode 5 of BIG LOVE, and as my post’s title suggests, I’m in love with this show.
The episode entitled ‘Affair’ not suprisingly revolves around Bill ‘cheating’ on his two wives to spend more time with his first wife (and my personal favourite) Barb (incredibly portrayed by Jeanne Tripplehorn). Watching these three very different woman deal with their marriage situation is way too much fun.
Barb: She’s definitely Bill’s true love, and at times I feel so bad that she has to put up with what she does (especially Nikki). I hope as the season continues, we learn more why she agreed to enter into the world of polygamy.
Nikki: Undeniably the most devious of the wives. She is completely out for herself, concerned with her own agenda and massive secret credit card debt that has piled up to about 60k. I will give her credit though, in the episode I just watched, she stood up for the family, which was great. It was also nice to get confirmation on a theory I already believed - that Bill married her purely for financial reasons.
Margene: The new girl on the block. She is so young, naive and adorable. I feel so bad for her, yet am loving her new found confidence. I can’t wait until the neighbours start setting her up on dates. (As they believe her husband was killed in the Gulf War!)
If you don’t watch BIG LOVE, no doubt you have no idea what I’m rambling about. But if you get HBO (or TMN for my fellow Canadians), definitely give the show a chance. It’s getting better with each episode. (Also, if you’re fans of VERONICA MARS, Mac, Lilly Kane and Cassidy are on the show!)
Late last night (not sure why I had the need to write ‘late’) I was up and I decided to watch the premiere episode of BIG LOVE in it’s entirety. Let me say this: while the premiere didn’t ‘WOW’ me - I definitely am intrigued enough to watch the next few episodes. This world of klans and polygomy has piqued my interest (not enough to jump on the polygomy bandwagon mind you!). The show also gets major points for casting my favorite sidekick Tina Majorino (aka MAC on Veronica Mars) as one Sara Henrickson’s friends (’Sara’ is portrayed by another VM alum, Amanda Seyfried - Veronica’s dead BFF Lilly Kane).
I’ve been looking forward to the premiere of BIG LOVE for weeks. Your genius (and never-ending) marketing campaign ensured that my brain knew that at 10pm on March 12 I’d be in front of my TV. Yet for the first 15 minutes of BIG LOVE, all I could think about was that I never in my life expected to see so much of Bill Paxton naked!
Look, I get it, you’re a pay cable station: you’re ‘not TV, you’re HBO’! you’re not conventional! I can see nudity on HBO! But just because you can air Bill Paxton’s butt for an entire episode, doesn’t mean I need to see it. I have nothing against nudity or anything like that, but it just feels so forced. Endless nudity doesn’t automatically equal a Soprano’s sized hit.
With that said, the show looks quite interesting. While I wasn’t in LOVE with the first episode (in fact, I have to finish watching it!) I am intrigued and will continue to watch. Afterall, being ‘theTVaddict’, I can’t afford to miss another hit quirky oddball dramedy like I did with 6ft.under (I totally just made up that shortform and it will no doubt become a new buzz word within 14 min.)
