Ask the Addict: DOLLHOUSE & GOSSIP GIRL Spoilers, TERMINATOR, BIG LOVE & More!

March 23rd, 2009

sierra dollhouse

As promised, Friday’s sixth episode of DOLLHOUSE didn’t disappoint. Please tell me it wasn’t an aberration. — DrunkonDushku
The TV Addict:
Rest assured, it wasn’t. With Whedon’s winning streak continuing this Friday when he reveals more of Echo’s backstory by sending her on a mission back to the very College campus that we’ve become accustomed to catching glimpses of in the mysterious ‘Caroline’ video. Fans will also learn how Sierra ended up in the Dollhouse, when she confronts the man responsible for putting her there (and trust me, it ain’t pretty.) Oh, and as for the big reveal that there are twenty or so Dollhouses strategically located around the world, Whedon joked on a recent conference call that it’s built-in franchising. In other-words, get ready for DOLLHOUSE: MIAMI!

What’s the word on tonight’s GOSSIP GIRL? — GossipGuy
The TV Addict:
Does “ZZZZZZzzzzzz” count as a word? Because unfortunately, that is my reaction to tonight’s snooze-inducing Nate-centric story-line. Seriously. If the Dollhouse ever needs another pretty-boy to walk around with a vapid and emotionless expression on his face, Chace Crawford is their man. So much so that not even an inebriated and highly entertaining secret-spilling Blair could save tonight’s train-wreck of an episode.

Loved Friday’s episode of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR chronicles, how about you? — LenaLikey
The TV Addict:
You mean the one where John Connor finally grew a pair. No exaggeration, scenes like John’s confrontation with Jesse are why PVR’s were invented (Well, that and because it allowed me to attend my BSG Frakkin’ Finale Party worry-free.) John’s transformation from petulant emo-boy was long overdue and I for one loved getting to see a glimpse of the young man who has finally started to demonstrate that he has what it takes to fight for humanity’s future. A fight, which by the way, just got a whole lot more interesting with Friday’s future-reveal that not all robots are on the same side.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
THE SIMPSONS (8PM FOX, GlobalTV in Canada)
Continuing FOX’s penchant for celebrating holidays late (see: Halloween in November), tonight’s adventure has the Simpsons traveling to Ireland five days after St. Patrick’s Day. Cue obligatory Homer Simpson epitaph, “D’oh!”

KINGS (8PM NBC, CityTV in Canada)
Remember friends, if this show gets cancelled and replaced with a third hour of CELEBRITY APPRENTICE, you only have yourself to blame. We’re just sayin’

BIG LOVE (9PM HBO)
In what is sure to be a BIG season finale, expect BIG surprises (courtesy of an unexpected visitor for Nicki), BIG potential cast changes (when Sarah reveals her future plans *cough*cough*movie career*cough) and a BIG cliffhanger (which may-or-may-not have to do with Bill’s plot to vanquish Roman and the Greenes once and for all.)

AMERICAN DAD (9:30PM FOX, GlobalTV in Canada)
Steve and his friends sabotage a stuck-up kid’s bar mitzvah (as this TV Addict’s inner-thirteen-year-old Jewboy cheers!)

BROTHERS & SISTERS (10PM ABC, GlobalTV in Canada)
Justin is suspicious of Ryan’s interest in Rebecca. Ditto.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
KINGS (8PM NBC, CityTV in Canada)
Remember, our 5 reasons KINGS could help rebuild NBC’s empire only applies if you tune in to tonight’s 2-hour premiere.

THE SIMPSONS (8PM FOX, GlobalTV in Canada)
After twenty seasons have THE SIMPSONS finally run out of ideas? Tune into tonight’s episode spoofing The Da Vinci Code, National Treasure and Ratatouille and decide for yourself.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES (9PM ABC, CTV in Canada)
Desperate housewives take a back seat to desperate writers with tonight’s shameless sweeps stunt episode involving a teacher (Swoosie Kurtz) getting the wrong idea when Susan tried to impress her.

BROTHERS & SISTERS (10PM ABC, GlobalTV in Canada)
Forgetting that they have access to copious amounts of alcohol, Kevin and Justin decide to take Tommy on a much needed vacation to clear his head about his monumental legal problems. Again, isn’t that what alcohol is for? We’re just sayin’

BIG LOVE (9PM HBO, 10PM HBO Canada)
As if we’re not going to tune into the Endowment Ceremony that has the Mormon’s up in arms!.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
THE SIMPSONS (8PM FOX, Global in Canada)
Yet again Bart illustrates that underachieving is the way to go when he alongside his fellow Springfield Elementary “underperformers” get an exemption from taking the test and are whisked away to Capital City.

BROTHERS & SISTERS (9PM ABC)
In an effort to single-handedly prop up the California wine industry, tonight’s two-hour installment promises double the surprises (A Walker health crisis!? A Walker exit!?) and assuredly, double the alcohol consumption.

UNITED STATES OF TARA (9PM Showtime)
While you’ll tune in for Toni Collette’s Emmy worthy performance, you’ll stick around for the equally unique, hilarious and touching supporting cast of characters including Keir Gilchrist, Nathan Corddry and Rosemarie DeWitt. The latter of whom delivered one of the funniest monologues in recent memory during last week’s very NSFW episode.

Tonight’s TV Addictions: February 15, 2009

February 15th, 2009

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
THE SIMPSONS (8PM FOX, GlobalTV in Canada)
Could Homer’s entire life have been different if he had been elected the president of his high school senior class? (I hear John McCain was recently pondering that very same question about his own life!)

FAMILY GUY (9PM FOX, GlobalTV in Canada)
Desperately in love with Joe and Bonnie’s new baby, Stewie struggles to write a love song. ‘Cause you know, crap like “I Just Called To Say I Love You” doesn’t just write itself!

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES (9PM ABC, CTV in Canada)
Things I don’t care about that are involved in tonight’s episode: Susan and Mike’s relationship (which lost me when they had one second of happiness and then fell apart off screen thanks to the time-warp); the Scavo’s pizza joint (Please, God, get Lynette back into the world of advertising!); Gaby blackmailing Carlos’ boss (Has her character grown one iota over the years? No. They occasionally show us two seconds worth of growth, then next week, she’s back to her usual obnoxious self). Things I might care about: Tensions rise between Bree, Andrew and Orson (I like that family, even when they’re in boring plots). And here’s something a character and I have in common: Dave is kinda fed up with everyone int he neighborhood being suspicious of him. Me too, Dave. Do something nasty, get killed and let’s be done with this!

AMERICAN DAD (9:30PM FOX, Global in Canada)
Holy cow, Roger has two families! And has for years! You know, I don’t actually care for this show. But then again, I spent years not liking FAMILY GUY, ONE TREE HILL and SUPERNATURAL, all of which are favorites now, so maybe it’s time to give it a second look.

BIG LOVE (9PM HBO, 10PM TMN in Canada)
Things get even more crowded for Bill and his wives thanks to an unexpected arrival, and Roman makes plans for a big comeback.

BROTHERS & SISTERS (10PM ABC, Global in Canada)
Rebecca sets out to find her dad, and it may be just as well she’s out of town, because Tommy is stepping up his plan to oust Holly. Something tells me there will be alcohol consumed at some point.

Share Your Secret TV Shame and Win BIG LOVE on DVD

January 18th, 2009

big love dvd

After far too long a hiatus, BIG LOVE returns to the airwaves tonight at 9PM on HBO (TMN in Canada). And in celebration of that fact, theTVaddict.com is thrilled to be able to give away seasons 1 and 2 on DVD to one lucky reader.

But there’s a catch. Our good friends over at HBO didn’t want us to just giveaway these DVDs. They requested that we somehow tie the contest into BIG LOVE’s third season tagline, “Everyone Has Something to Hide.” Which naturally begs the question: What are you trying to hide?

To qualify to win: Simply post away in the comments below with the most embarrassing show that you’ve got tucked away on your PVR/DVR right now (Or if you don’t have a PVR/DVR, just name the last embarrassing show you watched.) One winner will be notified via email on January 25, 2009 so be sure to enter with a valid email address.

And just to show you that this TV Addict has nothing to hide. Our current most embarrassing show currently saved on our PVR/DVR is HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2. Your turn.

Everything You Need to Know About BIG LOVE (In 4 Minutes)

June 19th, 2008

Why HBO decided to post this video now, when BIG LOVE’s third season has been pushed back to September, well, we’re not exactly sure. But on the off chance you miss the Henrickson clan as much as this TV Addict does, you’ll undoubtedly enjoy this quick refresher that squeezes two seasons of BIG LOVE into four minutes.

TV For Canadian Eyes Only

February 18th, 2008

While the focus of this site is predominantly on American television, every so often this proud-to-be-Canadian TV Addict likes to take a moment to highlight some of the must see TV that makes its way North of the 49th parallel.

When it comes to tonight’s series premiere of DAMAGES, one thing is for certain. You may inititally tune into the show for Glenn Close’s Golden Globe winning performance as morally ambiguous legal beagle Patty Hewes. But you’ll stick around thanks to a stellar supporting cast (or more specifically to watch Ted Danson prove there’s life after CHEERS) and enough twists and turns that you’ll soon be scratching your head and wondering whether you’re watching LOST in a courtroom. (DAMAGES airs on Mondays at 10PM on Showcase)\

Raise Your Hand…

June 11th, 2007

JOHN FROM CINCINNATI
Raise your hand if have absolutely no idea what last night’s premiere of JOHN FROM CINCINNATI was about.

Raise your hand if you’re so confused by Papa Yost’s inexplicable ability to levitate himself off the ground that you may actually give this series another chance.

Raise your hand if you don’t even care what’s going on, but are now really inspired to learn how to surf.

2007 TONY AWARDS
Raise your hand if you’re annoyed that CBS didn’t pony up the money to broadcast last night’s Tony Awards in High Definition.

Raise your hand if you think SPRING AWAKENING is the most over-hyped Broadway musical ever and you don’t understand (because you’re not fourteen) why exactly watching teeangers embrace their sexuality has been hailed as the ’second-coming of the modern musical?

BIG LOVE
Raise your hand if you’re excited for tonight’s long awaited return of BIG LOVE?

Raise your hand if you actually started to raise you hand while reading this post.

Raise your hand if your co-workers are starting to stare.

Okay I’ll stop.

BIG LOVE’s big finale

June 4th, 2006

Just thought I’d remind everyone, tonight is the season finale of HBO’s addicting drama BIG LOVE. According to the press release:

Bill and Joey blindside Roman at a UEB Priesthood Council meeting, turning the tables on the Prophet-but will their triumph be short-lived? Wanda’s bad habits resurface during a visit from Alby; Adaleen puts an abrupt end to Rhonda’s thespian sabbatical; Nicki’s family allegiances are put to the test; and Barb seizes the spotlight during the Mother of the Year award ceremony at the governor’s mansion.

All I know is that BIG LOVE has enthralled me since the series premiere. I love watching Bill, Margene, Nicki and Barb struggle to maintain some semblance of normalcy in their everyday lives as ’secret’ polygamists in Utah. I can’t wait to see Bill finally gain the upper hand against the incredibly evil (and fun to watch) Roman Grant.
