Between playing numerous variations of “Six” on BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, the hard-nosed handler of former agent Michael Westen on BURN NOTICE and an upcoming stint as the mysterious Agent Alex Ford on NBC’s action-comedy hybrid CHUCK, model-turned-actress Tricia Helfer may in fact be the busiest woman in show business.
Which is why this TV Addict was thrilled that she was kind enough to press pause on her busy schedule and take the time to talk to various members of the media about what the future holds for some of the most exciting characters to grace the small screen in recent memory.
On what fans can expect from the last two episodes of BURN NOTICE:
Tricia Helfer: It’s kind of hard without giving too much away. I will say I’m really excited to see the last episode. There’s a great stunt at the end that I’m just so excited to see. It’s not even my stunt, but I’m really excited to see it and I think it’s going to be a great finale. It really comes to a culmination point and Carla has kind of had it with Michael Westen and she realizes he’s just basically run her around in circles after she’s put some trust into him that he’s going to find the bomber and help give her the name, which essentially is a rogue agent, but she knows it is, and he disappoints her, so it comes to a culmination.
On whether or not she’ll be involved with season three of BURN NOTICE:
Tricia Helfer: I’m not on board for next season. As I like to say, I was the baddie of the second season, so yes, my last two episodes are this week and the finale, March 5th.
Good News: Universal Pictures is planning to turn the TV series BATTLESTAR GALACTICA into a feature film. Bad News: The film will be based upon the unwatchable 70’s version of the series rather than Ronald D. Moore’s re-imagined classic. [Source]
Good News: In an effort to save money, FRINGE is moving to Canada. Bad News: Vancouver is even further away from the TV Addict’s home base of Toronto than New York is. [Source]
Good News: According to the latest Nielsen survey, Americans are watching more TV than ever. Bad News: If Friday’s ratings are any indication, ‘more TV than ever’ does not include the likes of quality scripted fare such as FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES and DOLLHOUSE. [Source]
WHAT WE’RE WATCHING: TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES (8PM FOX)
Sarah (alongside a somewhat bewildered TV Addict) go looking for answers regarding the decimated factory as to why none of you are watching her show.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS (9PM NBC)
Just when we were starting to warm up to the new Tim Riggins, he goes ahead and does something boneheaded like trying to get the team to accept freshman QB J.D. McKoy. We’re just sayin’, for the record, we’re on Team Saracen 110%.
DOLLHOUSE (9:01PM FOX, Global in Canada)
Naysayers pointed to low ratings for the premiere. But few noted that the show gave DOLLHOUSE its best Friday ratings among the much-coveted young adult demo in, like, forever. Tonight, someone gets closer to uncovering Echo’s true identity even as she is being tracked by an expert hunter.
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (10PM Sci Fi, Space in Canada)
Ellen Tigh’s reunion with the Final Five rocks the Galactica in more ways then one. Boom chica boom boing pow. Okay, so porno music doesn’t exactly translate into words, but nonetheless, we think you know where we’re going with this. And if you don’t, you may have spent too many Friday’s at home watching Sci Fi (not that there’s anything wrong with that)
REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER (10PM HBO)
While CouchTater is quick to point out that “the basic flaw of this program is that everything these folks (including this week’s guest Tina Brown) talked about has been discussed to death over the course of the week.” This TV Addict is only too happy to listen to more of the same Octomom/Obama talk when it’s coming out of the mouth of the hilarious and irreverent Bill Maher.
Dear TV Addict, as much as I loved last week’s mythology-laden episode BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, please tell me tonight’s episode involves a lot less thinking? — TighMeUp
The TV Addict: Is it just me, or are TV fans incredibly hard to please? I mean we all spend season after season clamoring for answers, only to complain the moment we finally get them! God help LOSTerminds Damon Lindeloff and Carlton Cuse when they finally fill us all in on the mysteries behind the island, the four-toed statue, Ben’s mom, Claire’s disappearance, Jack’s father… well, you get the idea. But to answer your question, rest assured tonight’s episode is far less taxing on the brain cells. Not only does Ellen Tigh return in all her former glory, she gives new meaning to the phrase, “If this Viper is a rockin’…. don’t come a knockin!”
I have an unhealthy obsession with Jonathan Jackson, can you please tell me we are going to see more of him on TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES. — Jackson1
The TV Addict: I can do one better than simply tell you, I can be the first to reveal to you exclusively that Jonathan Jackson will indeed (all together now) be back, for multiple episodes no less. “Kyle Reese is the kind of character that fans are excited about and is good for the show,” revealed Jackson during last week’s one-on-one with theTVaddict.com. “I’ve shot three episodes so far and I’m about to shoot a fourth in a couple of weeks. A lot of stuff has been in the future, and Brian Austin Green who plays Derek has been great. Such a good guy and a great actor to work with.”
A while back you twittered that you were getting ready to see Lauren Graham in GUYS & DOLLS on Broadway. So… how was she? — StarsHollowHolla
The TV Addict: Well let’s put it this way. Had Rory Gilmore been reviewing the show for the Yale Daily News, she definitely wouldn’t have walked out. In fact, she would have been immensely proud of her fictional TV mom for not only proving that she has the pipes to belong on Broadway. But for more importantly showing that she can actually act and create a character that was hilarious, heartwarming and best of all, absolutely nothing like Lorelai Gilmore. Miss Patty would have been proud… and we’re just going to say, possibly a little jealous.
Even though we at theTVaddict.com swore we would never jump on the over-used “fail” meme, Friday’s surprise appearance on BATTLESTAR GALACTICA by John “I’m a PC” Hodgman leaves us with very little choice.
Not only is “The PC” guy far too ingrained in our culture zeitgeist to be taken seriously in anything outside of the occasional guest stint on THE DAILY SHOW. Hodgman’s appearance as Caprica’s sole surviving brain surgeon on the Galactica completely removed us from what should have been an emotionally charged scene with Anders’ life hanging in the balance. That and let’s face it, there is no way a PC is fixing anything. #fail
WHAT WE’RE WATCHING: TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES (8PM FOX, “A” in Canada)
This TV Addict’s “nerd-tastic” evening of Sci Fi goodness commences when fatal consequences result after Catherine Weaver becomes protective of John Henry. Fatal consequences?! We can’t wait!
DOLLHOUSE (9PM FOX. Global in Canada)
After gigabytes of valuable bandwidth wasted with endless rumors and speculation, the internets will finally get to see what they’ve been scrutinizing for the better part of a year now.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS (9PM FOX)
Jason’s gotta figure out a way to support Erin and his son. See, that’s one of the things that makes this show so great: The people feel real and — most of the time — face real problems. Unfortunately, folks still aren’t tuning in, as proven by the fact that last week, this show had viewer viewers than HOWIE DO IT. Heck, it had viewer viewers than FUEGO EN LA SANGRE on Univision. Seriously.
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (10PM Sci Fi, Space in Canada)
At long last, Ellen reunites with her people. Gee, wonder how that’s gonna go? Think she’ll be happy to find out about Saul and that trampy Six? I’m thinking “not!”
“In years past, I’ve attended [Comic Con] with the hopes of selling pictures and autographs, and taking home some desperately-needed bill paying money. I always tried to put the most positive face on it that I could, but the fact is, I was there as a has-been. That guy who “used to be” an actor. It was always humiliating and depressing for me to spend most of the day “under the sails.” I struggled to keep my chin up, and convince myself that I wasn’t a total loser.” Will Wheaton (STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION) on selling autographs at Comic Con.
As the TV Addict crosses another exciting Comic Con off his “bucket list,” our thoughts as they often do, turn to those less fortunate than us. The actors and actresses that spend their time at “the Con” selling signed photos and some might say their dignity away for twenty bucks a pop.
For those who have never been, it’s a Comic Con tradition. From that Orion Slave girl who has made a career signing autographs off one memorable guest appearance on STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES to current BATTLESTAR GALACTICA star Aaron Douglas, who fellow BSG cast members once joked has yet to turn down a convention invite, there’s something incredibly depressing about actors trying to hold onto, not to mention cash in on their fifteen minutes of fame.
With tonight’s series premiere of DOLLHOUSE, the return of TERMINATOR THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and of course BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, this TV Addict is not only officially proclaiming that Friday is the new Thursday, but also the most exciting, suspenseful and emotional night of television of the week. Agree, disagree, post away.
WHAT WE’RE WATCHING: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS (9PM NBC, CityTV in Canada)
As much as we weren’t the biggest fans of last season’s FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS murder mystery, we’re willing to make an exception for the new guy (Zach Roerig) who gets in between Tyra and Landry.
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (10PM Sci Fi, Space in Canada)
Will Adama and Tigh escape Gaeta and Zarek’s clutches in tonight’s thrilling conclusion?! Can’t wait a few hours to find out for yourself?! Click here for some major spoilers.
NEW & NOTABLE: COPS & AMERICA’S MOST WANTED (8 — 10PM on FOX)
Also known as a preview of what you can expect from FOX if you don’t bother to tune into TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES and DOLLHOUSE starting next week. Get the picture?
Hey TV Addict, as a loyal stalker follower of yours on twitter, I couldn’t help but notice that you’re off to New York this weekend, Can I ask why? — NotaStalker21
The TV Addict: Certainly! After-all, this column ain’t called “Ask the Addict” for nothing. What originally was going to be a quick visit to the set of NBC’s exciting new series KINGS on Thursday turned into a full blown weekend extravaganza after your very own TV Addict was lucky enough to secure tickets to Lauren Graham’s Broadway debut in GUYS & DOLLS and a press pass to this weekend’s New York Comic Con. Where if all goes according to plan, I’ll be live blogging throughout the day on Sunday as I sit front row center in the DOLLHOUSE, FRINGE, LIFE ON MARS & CHUCK panels.
As per your earlier tweet, do you seriously expect us to believe that you’re doing “brunch with Michael Urie and Becki Newton?” — Jason
The TV Addict: Ummm…. no. But if it helps, here’s a little breaking news. Michael Urie (@michaelurie) is officially following the TV Addict on twitter. Which as everybody who is anybody knows, is the first step to what will undoubtedly be the start of a beautiful bromance!
Were you connected enough to snag tickets to this weekend’s Bradley Cooper hosted installment of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE? — ArvinSloaneismyConstant
The TV Addict: Sadly, no. But that doesn’t mean you, yes you, can’t help make this TV Addict’s dream come true. If your name is Lorne Michaels or you just so happen to be incredibly well connected within the hallowed hallways of 30 Rockefeller Center, please feel free to email me anytime at info@thetvaddict.com.
