10 Questions to Ponder Until BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Returns [A Long Time From Now]

June 16th, 2008

Truth be told, following Friday’s phenomenal, nay, mind-blowing mid-season finale of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, this TV Addict’s head is still spinning with questions. So in an effort to get a half decent nights sleep, I thought I’d pass along my frustration to my fellow TV Addicts. Because as the saying goes, misery loves company.

Question 1: Who [or what] destroyed Earth? And more importantly, how does Earth’s destruction play into the prophecy we’ve heard so much about, “all this has happened before, and all of it will happen again.”

Question 2: Who [or what] is the 5th and final Cylon? And since we’re asking… where is he [or she]?

Question 3: What really happened to Kara Thrace and her mysterious Viper during her time away from Galactica?

Question 4: How long until the other Cylons find their way to earth and ruin the party?

Question 5: Could Kara’s statement to Lee that “for children to reach their full potential, their parents have to die” been any creepier? How many of our favorites are going to end up dead by the time the show’s final episodes air?

TV Addict Interview: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Star Rekha Sharma

June 13th, 2008

Rekha Sharma tory battlestar galactica
By: Amrie Cunningham [My Take on TV]

The mid-season cliffhanger/finale of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, airs Friday night on SciFi and I, for one, cannot wait. Series star Rekha Sharma, the devious now-Cylon Tory, who offed Callie Tyrol and boffed Gaius Balter, shares my excitement and can’t wait for everyone to tune in. I spent some time talking with Rekha about her role on the show, what we can expect for the rest of the series, and what Johnny Depp threw at her that gained him her respect.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is one of my favorite shows. I have to say that your character this season has actually really moved me. So I just wanted to say that you’ve done a great job.
Rekha Sharma:
Aw, thank you. Being moved is not a response I hear too often, so I really appreciate that [laughs].

Why when this all started, did you want to be Tory? How did this role happen for you?
Well, I had auditioned for a couple of smaller roles and I could tell that I liked these people. I wasn’t aware of how fabulous the show was, I just knew that there was something special happening in the room. When I got the breakdown for this character, I got really excited because I really liked the character. She seemed really strong, smart, in this great position with the female president. She has a good sense of humor, just a cool happening chick. Feisty and all that stuff. I worked really hard, and my hard work paid off and they decided to cast me.

What are some of your favorite things about her?
My favorite things, well, she’s way smarter than I am, in some ways. I don’t think I have what it takes to be a politician. She does. She’s very organized and very hard working. From playing her, I’ve come to sort of think about what it must be like to live your life as a politician and the expansiveness and the large vision you must have, you have to make some really tough decisions. While she hasn’t made those decisions, she’s supported Laura in making those big decisions. Yeah, it’s tough, it’s really tough. Fortunately, and unfortunately, I think that’s still part of her character, as she’s come to discover her Cylon nature, and she made a tough decision with Cally. Who’s to say it was the right one? She did what she thought was necessary in that moment.

Get Ready For a Shocking BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Death

June 11th, 2008

TheTVaddict.com Week in Rewind

May 19th, 2008

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
With thirteen episodes remaining, serious kudos must go to the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA creative team for not only continuing to deliver one helluva final season, but forgoing all pretense of keeping the show accessible for new fans. Stand alone episodes, tedious exposition, who needs it? Certainly not when we’re this close to reaching earth!

GREY’S ANATOMY
Sloan’s new leaf! Callie and Hahn! Christina Cleaning! The Chief’s intern! Mer and Der! The only thing we’re not loving about the phenomenal string of post—WGA strike GREY’S ANATOMY episodes is that they’re coming to an end this Thursday.

AMY RYAN
Proving her Academy Award Nominated turn in GONE BABY GONE was no accident, we’ve got two words for Thursday’s remarkable guest starring turn by Amy Ryan — Emmy Nomination. In fact, Ryan’s stint as the ‘new Toby’ was so stellar that this TV Addict is going to offer up three more words on the off chance the proverbial Powers That Be are reading this. Spin—off potential.

ALIENS IN AMERICA
While the majority of the net is up in arms this week thanks to Mick St. John’s untimely stake to the heart and ABC taking the ax to MEN IN TREES. This TV Addict wanted to offer up one final shout out to last Sunday’s penultimate installment of ALIENS IN AMERICA. From heart to hilarity, there was absolutely nothing alien about the CW’s comedic hidden gem, except of course for viewers. Which is unfortunate, because surely I’m not the only one who is going to miss his weekly fix of Tolchuk adventure?

This Week in TV: OMFG Edition

April 13th, 2008

The TV Addict knows a good idea when he see it. Which is why I’m taking a page from the CW’s controversial GOSSIP GIRL ad campaign to present my very-own edition of THIS WEEK IN TV: OMFG Edition!

teri hatcher idol gives back band from tv

Teri Hatcher gets desperate for attention is exactly the type of catchy headline I’d use if it wasn’t for such a good cause. But since Hatcher headlining ‘Band From TV’ on Wednesday’s IDOL GIVES BACK benefited six incredibly worthy charities, I’ll just say this. Teri, don’t quit your day job.

Exclusive Interview: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Star Jamie Bamber

April 4th, 2008

jamie bamber apollo battlestar galactica season four
By: Amrie Cunningham [My Take on TV]

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is back, and not surprisingly, better than ever. What better way to count down the minutes to the final season premiere than by spending some time learning a bit more about everyone’s favorite Viper-pilot-turned-courtroom-lawyer, Lee Adama [aka Jamie Bamber]? Jamie and I talked last week about what he hopes to see for his character, what he hopes fans take away from the show, and what he really thinks about the whole “Starbuck/Apollo/will-they/can-they/should-they-really” relationship.

BATTLESTAR is hands down one of my favorite shows on television and I’m so excited that it’s coming back tonight.
Jamie Bamber:
Yeah, we all are. It’s something that’s become very precious to us, and we want to see it finished in the right way.

What attracted you to the role of Lee when the series first started.
I think his entrance into the show. The way the character arrived, as a stranger aboard this Battlestar, not wanting to be there, being forced into this sort of retirement of his dad that he doesn’t get on with. It being completely about, you know, family relationships and something that we can all relate to. And then the end of the world happening and him being stranded in this world that he didn’t really want to be in. I thought that was the most fantastic premise for a character opening. This is not his life; this is not the people he’s surrounded by, all these military guys. He was probably, in my mind, about to quit the military, and here he is stranded. With the one man he didn’t want to see forever. It was just a great set up for a character, and an unusual one. In the original series, he was the out and out hero. And in this one, he is that, but he’s also less than perfect. He was very adolescent in the original, and I think I brought an adolescence to it that made it even more the case. It was that. It was purely that. And the fact, I knew I was meant to be playing Apollo, and yet I couldn’t find the character Apollo, he was called Lee Adama and it was that, we’re trying something new, and we’re trying to get away from the curse of these names, you know, Apollo, Starbuck. The way that Ron has made the world plausible, is what struck me.

First Look: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Season Four

April 2nd, 2008

What can I really tell you about Friday’s fourth and final season premiere of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA? Not nearly as much as I’d like to.

Don’t get me wrong, this TV Addict has got oodles to say about the return of a certain fighter pilot, the newest four members of the Cylon family and the ever-increasingly bizarre actions of one Giaus Baltar. Yet my lips shall remain sealed thanks to the confidentially agreement I was obligated to sign with the SCI FI Network before they would even consider sending me the GALACTICA screener!

No joke. If I even dare mention any of the “Oh No He [or She or It] Didn’t” moments that take place during the episode’s final fifteen minutes, I’m pretty sure that SCI FI has the right to show up at my doorstep and take possession of my dog, TV and future first born.

That said, here is what I can reveal. While BATTLESTAR GALACTICA fans will by no means be let down come Friday at 10PM. Fans might be disappointed to discover that episode scribes David Weddle and Bradley Thompson take a page from the LOST playbook. Raising far more questions than they do answers.

Holy Frak! What a Way to Start the Week

March 31st, 2008

battlestar galactica press kit

“Holy Frak… Holy Frak… Holy Frak!” is what I’m quietly uttering under my breath so that my friendly neighborhood FedEX driver doesn’t think I’m deranged.

Did the SCI FI Network just send me what I think they sent me? Is theTVaddict.com one of the select few media outlets that have been entrusted with a preview copy of the most highly anticipated series premiere since, well, the last time BATTLESTAR GALACTICA returned to the airwaves? Talk about the perfect way to start off a dreary Monday in Toronto.

Be sure to check back with theTVaddict.com all week, as we’ll be celebrating Friday’s return of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA with news, reviews and if you’re lucky, a few spoilers as well.
