2008 UpFront Buzz: 90210, BACK TO YOU, ALIENS IN AMERICA & ELI STONE

May 10th, 2008

Since it’s way too too nice to be inside today in the TV Addict’s beautiful hometown of Toronto Canada, I’m going to make this quick. Ready… set… blog…

elly taylor jennie garth 90210 Michael Ausiello is reporting that the original bad-girl-turned-good Jennie Garth will be returning to the show that made her famous, signing on to BEVERLY HILLS 90210 Version 2.0 [this show really needs an official title] in a recurring capacity as get this — West Bev’s Guidance Counsellor. And while this TV Addict is thrilled with the news, surely I’m not the only one who finds it hard to believe that Kelly Taylor — the original Queen Bee of Beverly Hills high — is living the life she’s accustom to on a guidance counsellor salary. Unless of course she married rich. Hmmm…. Dylan McKay cameo anyone?

Two rare gems on television, smart shows that actually make this TV Addict laugh — ALIENS IN AMERICA and BACK TO YOU are both said to be on the chopping block this week. And while ALIENS axe comes as no surprise considering the CW put about $5 into marketing the show. BACK TO YOU’s sudden cancellation is quite the shock and disappointment. Especially since FOX is renewing ‘TIL DEATH [as in, what I wish for when when I'm watching the show] for a third season. Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton deserve a far better fate than this and if it helps make my argument, the epicenter of cultural cool [Entertainment Weekly] agrees.

You Be the Critic: Sunday Night TV

May 5th, 2008

Since this TV Addict turned REEL Addict for the night by catching a 7:15PM showing of IRON MAN [click here for review], I leave it up to you, my fellow TV Addicts. Did BROTHERS & SISTERS up the Justing/Rebecca creep factor? Did Lynette institutionalize her two fire-starters on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES? Is anyone watching the soon-to-be-brilliant-but-cancelled ALIENS IN AMERICA? Post away with your comments below.

5 Shows You Should Be Watching

THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE
Julia Louis-Dreyfus doesn’t just put an end to that silly SEINFELD curse. By taking a page from the Will Ferrell book of comedy and doing anything for a laugh, she eviscerates it. From verbal sparring with her ex-husband, to dating a twenty year old, all the while defending herself against television’s two funniest mean mommies [spin-off please!] OLD CHRISTINE is hands down our favorite femme fatale since THE COMEBACK’s Valerie Cherish. Why not help ensure CBS doesn’t trade OLD CHRISTINE for a newer and less funny model next season [see: RULES OF ENGAGEMENT] by tuning into tonight’s brand new episode following the return of TWO AND A HALF MEN at 9:30PM on CBS.

ELI STONE
ELI STONE has something for everyone. It’s the ultimate TV mash-up. Medical mystery, law, order, ghosts, visions, mythology, romance and EVERWOOD alumni Tom Amandes. Heck, it even has a weekly musical number for the few fans old enough to remember COP ROCK. All it needs now is a break. As if having an inoperable brain aneurysm wasn’t bad enough, does Eli really need to find himself unemployed come fall 2008? Show a little compassion by tuning into ELI STONE this Thursday following a brand new episode of LOST at 10PM on ABC.

TheTVaddict.com Week in Rewind

October 21st, 2007

aliens in america

Welcome to THE TV ADDICT’S WEEK IN REWIND A look back at last week’s good/bad/ugly in the world of television. Oh, and speaking of good. Did you hear? TheTVaddict.com was in the LA TIMES?

BEST EPISODE OF THE WEEK: ALIENS IN AMERICA
Monday’s ALIENS IN AMERICA taught this TV Addict a lot. Namely, that Justin is brilliant. Creating a fake Rocket Club as an excuse to escape his overprotective mom [Franny thought the Canadian Flag was a giant red pot leaf!] and chill in a friend’s basement, eat cupcakes and watch movies — why didn’t I think of that in high school?

More math for you — one really funny plot [local police think Raja's a terrorist because he's buying rocket supplies at the local hardware store] plus some terrific one liners [Cheerleader philosophy: "What you're actually saying is that in this country, there's absolutely nothing a boy can do that a girl won't cheer for."] equals one explosive ending, and the funniest half hour of comedy this week.

LAUGH OUT LOUD MOMENT OF THE WEEK: DEXTER
Sure the words ’serial killer’ and ‘funny’ don’t exactly go hand in hand, but we have a feeling anyone who’s ever bought a car couldn’t help but laugh when Dexter’s latest victim just so happened to be a car salesman. Memo to Dexter: Having recently gone through the ordeal of purchasing my first car, if you’re ever in the Toronto area, I’ve got a few car salesman who are most definitely worthy of your special brand of justice.

BIGGEST SHOCKER OF THE WEEK: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
Dumbledore was gay! Oh wait, this is theTVaddict.com. Mamma Taylor slapped Julie! Landry and Tyra did it! Riggins attended Church! Coach Taylor’s coming back to Dillon! Two questions for FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHT fanatics. One, can FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS get any better? And two, how long until next week’s episode?

First Look: Scott Patterson in ALIENS IN AMERICA

September 4th, 2007

scott patterson aliens in america

Attention GILMORE GIRLS fans, we’ve got some great news for you! That happy ending you always dreamed of — you know the one where Scott Patterson is happily married with a loving family — well it came true. The catch, Luke isn’t married to Lorelai and we’re definitely not in Stars Hollow anymore [although that green collared shirt still screams 'Luke' if you ask us, assuming it wasn't tucked in!]

That said, Patterson is still on the CW and ALIENS IN AMERICA is perhaps the funniest and most original comedy the CW’s ever produced. Click the link below for more great pics and be sure to tune into ALIENS premiere this October 1 on the CW.
