TheTVaddict.com Week in Rewind

October 27th, 2008

sarah chuck yvonne Strahovski

Showrunner of the Week: Regardless of where your Winchester loyalty lies, this TV Addict thinks showrunner Eric Kripke deserves some serious kudos for poking the beast… err… we mean the SUPERNATURAL fandom and speaking out on an issue he felt needed clarification. It’s official, Dean is not a “Dick.”

Showrunner of the Week (Runner-Up): Call me an obsessed dog owner (which by the way, guilty as charged, see Mac), but this week’s Showrunner of the Week (Runner-Up) is Shonda Rhimes, for doing what she does best. Taking another tried and true television cliché, which in PRIVATE PRACTICE’s case revolved around your standard troubled teen and parlaying it into an interesting story complete with a surprisingly emotional ending.

Reminder You’re Getting Old of the Week: Following last week’s flashback to Sarah’s (Yvonne Strahovski) High School days on CHUCK which featured some ‘classic’ tracks courtesy of Paula Cole, Hanson and Chumbawamba, it’s official. This TV Addict is starting to feel really old. Begging the question, what’s next, a Backstreet Boys Reunion Tour? Oh wait…

Rank J.J. Abrams Leading Ladies

September 10th, 2008

jj abrams leading ladies

While some may argue that the series premiere of FRINGE raised some fairly large questions for fans to waste valuable bandwidth debating — Questions like why exactly was Walter Bishop institutionalized in the first place? Just how evil is Massive Dynamics? And how on earth is Mark Valley’s Agent John Scott alive? This TV Addict thought he’d take this opportunity to bring up the one question guaranteed to bring down the internet.*

Now that you’ve had a chance to meet Agent Olivia Dunham, where does actress Anna Torv stand in the pantheon of J.J. Abram’s girls? [J.J's girls of course refers to FELICITY's Keri Russell, ALIAS' Jennifer Garner and LOST's Evangeline Lilly.]

Why We Watch: J.J. Abrams

January 20th, 2008

Recently, WGA members Charlie Craig and Thania St. John started a web site called WHY WE WRITE, a series of essays by prominent – and not so prominent – TV and Film writers. In response, this TV Addict thought he’d share this video of J.J. Abrams, in a post I’d like to call WHY WE WATCH.

In the most entertaining twenty minutes you’ll experience all day, J.J. Abrams traces his love of the unseen mystery — the heart of ALIAS, LOST, and the just released CLOVERFIELD — back to its own magical beginnings, which may or may not include an early obsession with magic, the love of a supportive grandfather, or his own unopened Mystery Box.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Could J.J. Abrams be any cooler? Turns out he can. Click here to check out this incredible story courtesy of Aintitcoolnews.

Good News: FOX has finally given BONES a return to air date. Bad News: The day it returns is (Gulp!) April 24. [see link]

Good News: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS is new tonight. Bad News: So is 1 VS 100.

Good News: The WB chooses Blu-Ray over HD. Bad News: My Xbox 360 doesn’t play Blu-Ray! [see link]

Good News: This whole Good News/Bad News piece has been a lot of fun to write. Bad News: Expect the TV Addict to completely overkill it along the same lines as my strike through phase. Yup, still funny.

Thanks to Jenny for sending over this great video!

Own a piece of ALIAS

May 24th, 2006

How big an ALIAS fan are you? Obsessed enough with Rambaldi to spend $660 on a genuine Rambaldi Sphere? How about $560 (and counting) for a signed finale script? Personally I was hoping to snag Sydney’s red wig from the series premiere! Check out the special ALIAS Finale prop and costume auction on ebay by clicking here.

ALIAS goes out with a bang!

May 23rd, 2006

There mission, should they choose to accept it, was to wrap up possibly one of the most complex and layered series in the history of television in a mere two hours. Ensuring that long-time and dedicated fans got a satisfactory ending for each and every one of the characters we’ve come to know and love. The writers of ALIAS succeeded in their mission, ending ALIAS on a high note. Providing meaningful endings for the majority of our favourite characters, all the while actually letting us in on the secret that is the mystery of Rambaldi (sort of!). Let me start off with what I LOVED about the episode:

A Tale of 2 Spy Shows

May 22nd, 2006

24It’s ironic that after five seasons on the air, both ALIAS and 24 will air their two hour finales tonight. Both series were launched with a bang five years ago, amidst massive promotional campaigns, scoring record numbers in their season premieres. Of course as the seasons wore on, ALIAS’ audience shrunk due to an incredible complex story (listening lost?) while 24’s audience soared, thanks mainly to the juggernaut that is AMERICAN IDOL.

AliasWhile I’ve appreciated the edge-of-your-seat-completely-implausible excitement of 24 (bathroom breaks anyone?), I’ve always been a bigger fan of ALIAS. Under the direction of creative genius J.J. Abrams, ALIAS not only had a fantastic story (Seriously, we better find out the deal behind Rambaldi tonight – and it better be good!), it had characters with undeniable chemistry. Sydney and Vaughn, Irina and Jack, Jack and Sydney, Sydney and Sloane, well you get the idea! Unlike 24, which is essentially action action and more action – ALIAS had heart!

That said, my PVR will be set to record both finales tonight. Let’s hope both shows end their season (and series) as great as they started.

ALIAS & LOST = AWESOME

May 11th, 2006

vaughn aliasTV at it’s best… for 88 minutes last night (no commercials of couse thanks to the greatest invention evern, my PVR), I had the pleasure of watching both ALIAS and LOST at it’s best. Let me start with ALIAS, a few observations:

Evil Sloane is so much more fun then ‘pretending to be nice’ Sloane.

When Vaughn was kicking Sydspinoza (or Espisydny, whatever you prefer) do you think it was a bit therapeutic for him? (This is for breaking up with me and getting married and having a kid with Ben Affleck!)

Speaking of Vaughn, is it really possible to have a chip the size of a loonie (Canadian dollar for those of you in the know) implanted in you for thirty years and not realize it?

Sark is back, ensuring that Alias is definitely going to end it’s run on a high note.

After five years of speculation, the “Rambaldi endgame’ better be something really really cool!

libby lostOn the LOST front, let me be (surely note) the first to say how much I loved last night’s episode. Why you ask? Well things actually happened, plot moved forward and Mr. Eko carried around a big axe. Some thoughts:

The combination of Eko and Locke is definitely intriguing. A man of faith and one who seems to have ‘lost’ it. Can’t wait to see this relationship continue.

It was surprising to me how much the new hatch reminded me of my living room. As a TVaddict, I like to have nine 70’s style TV’s and a giant couch to watch in maximum comfort :)

I loved that the father of the miracle child was the psychic who Claire met in season one. I’m just proud of myself that I actually made the connection without reading it online after and feeling like a moron for not ‘getting the show.’

Libby actually died. I have to admit to being surprised. We hardly knew her. Rest assured, showrunners Cuse and Lindeloff have assured us we haven’t seen the last of Libby. You can check out their great interview with TVGuide’s Michael Ausiello by clicking here.
