TCA 2008: 24: EXILE

Recipe for disaster: take one room full of ravenous journalists, cram them into an area that is entirely too small, populate entire area with waist-high tables, serve scones and hot coffee, then unleash the stars of the next season of 24 on the crowd. Stir well, and serve at room temperature.

Fox decided not to have a panel for 24 at the TCAs, and instead present us with the opportunity to take a coffee break and hobnob with Kiefer Sutherland, Jon Voight, Robert Carlyle, and Gil Bellows. It quickly turned into the feeding frenzy of dozens of microphones shoved into the faces of Jon Voight asking about Angelina Jolie’s new twins, and mobbing Kiefer Sutherland wanting intricate details on the plot of the next season of everyone’s favorite real-time show.

Good News: Oscar Winner Jon Voight has signed onto the upcoming seventh season of 24 to play Jack Bauer’s latest nemesis. Bad News: One might argue that Jon Voight’s track record as the ultimate baddie was somewhat tarnished when he failed to defeat a bunch of toddlers in SuperBabies: Baby Geniuses 2. [Source]

Good News:CHUCK isn’t taking any chances when it returns this fall, snagging high profile guest stars Melinda Clarke [THE OC], John Larroquette [BOSTON LEGAL] and Michael Clarke Duncan [THE GREEN MILE] for its first two episodes. Bad News: Its first two episode are still three months away! [Source]

Good News: The brains behind the 90210 re-boot have written a role for everybody’s favorite fictional father figure/burger flipper Nat. Bad News: Actor Joe E. Tata has gone M.I.A. No really. If you’ve seen him please contact Kroeger/Rapaport Casting at 310.836.1523. [Source]

Win 24 Season One Special Edition on DVD

May 22nd, 2008

24 dvd special edition

Remember 24? That show where Jack Bauer defied the odds by surviving bad day after bad day sans washroom breaks?

Well, to jog your memory until the series returns this November with a two hour movie [hopefully titled “2″] and in celebration of FOX re-releasing 24’s first season on DVD, theTVaddict.com is giving away two copies of 24: Season One Special Edition on DVD.

Now I know what you’re thinking, what exactly is special about this re-release? Well aside from being packaged in a really cool shiny tin can, the special edition offers up a new introduction by Kiefer Sutherland, audio commentary by Director Stephen Hopkins and Jack’s fictional wife actress Leslie Hope, not to mention loads of deleted scenes and one pretty surprising alternate ending.

To enter to win, simply answer the following question in the comments below. Wait, there’s a catch! Because frankly we’re tired of just giving away stuff for a comment that took you three seconds to write. For something as special as 24 on DVD, you’re going to have to work for it. Thus, your answer must be in the form of a hiaku. Wondering what a haiku is? It’s essentially a form of poetry that involves crafting three lines in a 5-7-5 format — the first line is 5 syllables, the 2nd line has 7 and the final line has 5 syllables. Click here for more info.

Question: Why do you love 24?

Sample Answer:

Jack Bauer is cool
Saves the world in twenty-four
No break for Restroom

Two winners will be notified via email in one week [or 168 hours]. So when leaving a comment, pleasure ensure you’re providing a real email address.

While 24 and Allison Mack Return, 90210 Dad Still MIA

May 15th, 2008

Today’s announcement by FOX that 24 will be returning this November 23 for a two hour movie revolving around Jack Bauer and an international crisis in South Africa begs the obvious question. Would it have killed FOX to wait one day so that 24 could return on November 24! I mean hello?! We’re talking marketing 101 here.

With this morning’s news that ‘Team Mack’ successfully negotiated Chloe’s return to SMALLVILLE after securing a hefty pay increase for an eighth and most likely final season, this TV Addict can’t help but wonder — What is Michael Ausiello’s cut for so brilliantly ‘reporting’ the original story that put so much pressure on the CW/WB to begin with? We’re just sayin,’ be it Snapple or Smurfs the man deserves something.

And finally, with the news that 90210 is having difficulty finding the next Jim Walsh, which 90’s icon would you like to see cast as Harry Mills? Cast your vote in theTVaddict.com Poll [see right sidebar].

Which of these New 24 Cast Members is Going to Die?

24 season seven cast photo

First PRISON BREAK’s Sara Tancredi comes back from the ‘dead’, now 24’s Tony Almeida. Either FOX has one helluva medical plan, or somebody’s running out of story ideas. [Zing! — Thank you, thank you, I’ll be here all night!]

But seriously folks, in honor of this first look at 24’s seventh season cast, this TV Addict thought he’d offer up a little challenge. As 24 fans know all too well, each and every season you can always count on one actor being added to the cast who’s sole purpose is to be ’shockingly’ killed off a mere four hour into Jack’s really bad day. So in the comments below, post away who you think this season’s victim is going to be. Need a closer look at the photo? Click here for a super-sized version of the photo.

24 Set to Return Early with a Two-Hour Prequel

March 6th, 2008

24

The following takes place between 8PM and 10PM this fall 2008. Jack Bauer’s back baby!

Following an unexpected year and half hiatus, it was announced today that FOX has taken a page from the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA playbook [see: RAZOR] and green-lit a two-hour “prequel” movie that will bridge the gap between seasons six and seven.

Needless to say, we at theTVaddict.com couldn’t be more thrilled. And in an effort to lend a hand as the production team gears up for Jack’s early return, this TV Addict thought he’d offer up this blatantly obvious promotional poster. [Note: For ways to thank me, nobody plays collateral damage like this TV Addict!]

Who else is excited for “2″?

Exclusive First Look: 24 Season 7 Trailer

October 25th, 2007

Courtesy of a mole deep inside CTU, theTVaddict.com is thrilled to offer up a first look at the highly anticipated seventh season of 24. Needless to say, if this trailer is any indication — skeptics be damned. Season 7 of 24 is going to rock.

Tony Almeida Returns to 24

September 19th, 2007

TheTVaddict.com has just learned that Carlos Bernard will officially be returning to the show this season as fan favorite Tony Almedia. Turns out Tony was only thought to be left for dead by millions of viewers, but in reality was alive and well.

“Tony’s uncertain fate near the end of ‘Day 5’ left the door open for his return,” said executive producer/show-runner Howard Gordon. “And since there was no silent clock at the conclusion of his last appearance – the 24 tribute to a major character’s demise – we always kept this as a possibility.”

WOW! No only do CTU agents have the uncanny ability to avoid traffic in Los Angeles, they can also go an entire day without hitting a bathroom AND survive deadly explosions! Since we’re reinventing the show here, why not take a page from NBC’s BIONIC WOMAN and give Tony a bionic arm or leg? Or bring a few other fan favorites back from the dead. Who wouldn’t like to see the return of zombie Nina Meyers, President Palmer or Bairus’ Mom.

Three words 24 — Jump The Shark.

24 Scoop: Janeane Garofalo Called to Investigate

August 21st, 2007

janeane garofalo 24This season, Jack Bauer and the conservative minds behind 24 will face their biggest challenge yet. Feisty, funny, Liberal pundit Janeane Garofalo.

According to TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello, Garofalo, who’s signed on as a series regular, “will play a government agent who is part of the team investigating the crisis befalling Jack Bauer and Co. in the upcoming season.”

Three reasons why this TV Addict loves this signing: 1) We can only hope more of Garofalo’s WEST WING alum follow her lead. Martin Sheen for President anyone? 2) Garofalo will add some much needed humour to the heavy-handed show. 3) In her spare time, perhaps Garofalo can help out the 24 writers with some plot ideas. Rumor has it, the writers are having a bit of trouble this season coming up with new story ideas.

24 Pauses the Clock

August 16th, 2007

For the second time this summer, Fox has pressed the pause button on 24. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the troubled series has been delayed yet again so that the writers can catch up on writing scripts for the new season. Needless to say, this complete lack of a coherent plan and the seemingly on-the-fly writing doesn’t bode well for the upcoming seventh season.

That said, always one to lend a hand, this TV Addict has a plan to save the day! For one season only, FOX should consider downsizing 24 to 12 (or at the very least 16.) Think about it. Twelve episodes will give the writers all the time in the world to formulate the best season of 24 yet. And fans won’t complain, as twelve amazing episodes are far better than twenty-four medicore ones. I think I speak for everybody when I say that no fan wants to suffer through another season like last season’s debacle. So get cutting!
