Ace Says:

You and I had the exact same reaction…Where is Kanye when you need him???

Dave Says:

Did anyone else think that maybe John Hughes’ death contributed to some “Duckie” nostalgia, causing people to tick off Cryer’s name on the ballot instead of the clearly-more-deserving NPH? Even if that was the case, the second Jon Cryer showed up at the Emmys in his Harry Potter meets Billy Bee vest, he should’ve been declared ineligible.

Cyn Says:

I cry cry cried.

Mary Says:

HIMYM is my favorite show & Barney is the best part. However Cryer is still a funny guy so I’m not angry.

Harmony Says:

I was super sad :( NPH is so much funnier, and I think that Two and a Half Men is past its prime, and really not enjoyable. But there’s always next year!

tim Says:

i kept thinking thank god jeremy piven isnt in the running… this means NPH will win….. WTF! JON CRYER! …. turned off the emmys.

Harry Says:

I was double sad because I lost a slap bet as a result.

Rincey Says:

I think I yelled “Can someone cancel this show already??”

melissa Says:

nph deserved to win! but he was a good sport. one day he’ll win it, no worries.

Alyssa Says:

My initial reaction was: “What is wrong with this world?!? Jon Cryer? Seriously? Why was he even nominated? Can I demand a recount?”

grayarea Says:

I went from being on an absolute high seeing Kristin Chenoweth’s win her Emmy to the lowest of lows when Jon Cryer’s name was announced. And then I came to realize that these things will never be as you’d hope them to be. NPH will have his Emmy next year!

David Says:

I was disappointed Neil didn’t win the Emmy, but happy he was probably the biggest winner of the night. His great job as host and his work as one of the producers let everyone see just how taleneted he is! I know this will lead to a lot of great things for him.

Bridget Says:

Noooo, how could they not give it to the Barnacle!!

AJ Says:

I can tell you my exact reaction thanks to Twitter: “JON CRYER??? ARE YOU @!#$ING KIDDING ME??? SUCK IT, EMMYS!! NPH/JACK/TRACY FOREVER!!!” [Censored as per your cirections to keep it family-friendly. You're welcome!]

lisa Says:

i definitely think john hughes dying played a big part in john cryer winning. a total symphathy vote situation. neil patrick harris absolutely deserved it.. 2 1/2 men is not even funny! himym is hundred times funnier!

Alison Says:

I thought… “really? i thought he was a shoo in because he was the host.. this is going to make things awkward” but nph handled it great

Manju Says:

I accept Harris’ defeat. He is too genius for TV and he already hosted the Emmy’s, they were just too scared everybody thought it was crooked if they gave the Emmy to Harris, so they gave to it this guy that is not funny or talented playing a lousy role on a show that’s only loved by the masses for it’s simplicity then for actually being funny.
See, I kept it friendly. ;)

LT Says:

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! The Emmys do this to me every year. Every freaking year. I drowned my sorrows in wine, which was depression drinking until Michael Emerson picked up his Emmy later on. I’m sure next year Piven will be nominated and win again. Grrr.

Lauren Says:

the obvious reaction, “WTF!?!?!…….NPH is genius, Jon Cryer is still on TV? Seriously, WHO watches that show?”

Emilie Says:

One word: RECOUNT.

Just Jody Says:

Immediate Reaction: “Seriously? Of all the people nominated, he’s the only one who’s not at all funny.”

Secondary Reaction: “Lame.”

And then: “Poor NPH. Now he has to keep hosting with a smile on his face.”

Much Later: “NPH is the bomb. Didn’t miss a beat, and still hosted the best Emmy’s in… well, probably ever.”

Jason Fiske Says:

I sat there flabergasted. I could not believe John Cryer snuck, the award away. no hard feelings or bitterness, but I sure was surprised.

Amanda Says:

My reaction… totally open-mouthed, and then “WHAT?! Barney Stinson lost to the dude from TWO AND A HALF MEN?!” And then I cried a little bit. No, I didn’t. But I did feel bad for NPH. He was robbed but he still hosted like a champ.

meghan Says:

I slapped my boyfriend on the back of the head, because he claims to actually LIKE “Two and a Half Men.” Then I chugged the rest of my beer to dull the dual harsh reality that there are people out there who enjoy that show (and don’t appreciate the genius of NPH)… and that I’m dating one of them.

Sarah Says:

I had been telling my boyfriend all week that NPH was absolutely going to win the award. We were out for the first half of the show, and missed the award itself, but the first thing I did when we got home was check the awards already given out so I could brag about being right. Much to my dismay, NPH had not, of course, won. I yelled angrily at my laptop briefly, and then the Dr. Horrible sketch came on TV and I realized NPH was too cool for the Emmys anyway and got over it. =D

Alicia Says:

“It figures” the deserving never win. Not to mention Jon Cryer is a co-lead on the show not a supporting actor. NPH is brilliant and should have won, I would have even been happy with Jim Parsons, but alas they got it wrong.

Alisa Says:

My reaction: Comedy gold. I was looking forward to how NPH would play it.

Also wanted to tell my parents who are big Two and a Half Men fans the news and found them both asleep in front of the TV!

Robert Jonsson Says:

Whatever. Who cares about Emmys? Ever since Buffy constantly was snubbed, I couldn’t care less for the ones who doesn’t have any taste.

Amelia Says:

poor swarley!! he was robbed! jon cryer and two and a half men were never funny- it has a canned laugh track!!!

Maggie Says:

I didn’t even know “Two and a Half Men” was still on the air!! I then thought about how much fun NPH was going to have making jokes about his loss for the rest of the night, and of course, he didn’t disappoint :)

Mel Says:

I was shocked and upset – especially since he lost to Jon Cryer!

Allison Says:

my mother: “NPH was ROBBED!”
Me: “Not just robbed. Mugged, whipped, spit upon, kicked in the gnads, humiliated in the way of sober karoke singers everywhere.”

So yeah, I was displeased with the Emmy voters.

Andrew Says:

Jon Cryer beating Neil Patrick Harris for best supporting actor is an outright failure of democracy. It was one of the lowest points in recorded history.

Josh Emerson Says:

Shock. I really thought this was NPH’s year to win. And of all the people to lose to, Jon Cryer?!

Dwen Says:

I thought, Emmy is probably the only lady Alan could steal away from Barney!

Alyssa Says:

There was some screaming at the TV and then a pint of ice cream as consolation.

cabri Says:

At first I was sad, but then I started wondering if he would turn this around into a bitter bitter expose of the broken-down Emmy voting system. And he did!

Dana Says:

What? No! This was the only award I expected HIMYM to win and they deserve so much more!

Matt Says:

I was saying to my wife when they were opening the envelope “NPH better not lose to.. (the emmy goes to John Cryer) … NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boooo i say!

Courtney Says:

I threw up a little bit in my mouth. And then realized that maybe my mother isn’t the only one who watches Two and a half men.

Tom Says:

I felt real bad for NPH. Somehow the voters weren’t given the chance to flock to Jeremy Piven (who is awesome as Ari, by the way), and somehow Jon Cryer rises out of that super-talented category to win?!? Boo-urns!

Jamie Says:

My TV is just lucky that there wasn’t anything within grabbing distance for me to throw at it when they announced Jon Cryer’s name.

Krissy Says:

I was really upset, and a bit shocked. Thought he had it for sure.

Liz Says:

I think my exact words were, “WHAT? You have got to be KIDDING ME!” My whole family was watching, and we’re all huge HIMYM fans and most of us had picked NPH in our Emmy pool. I could have accepted Rainn Wilson or Jack McBrayer winning, but Jon Cryer? Really Academy? REALLY?

walkingpneumonia Says:

I was so upset I picked up the remote…

Jenni Lou Says:

Stunned. STUNNED! I mean, I thought he was a shoo-in, esp. after Jeremy Piven failed to earn a nom for once. And it should have been NPH. Jon Cryer is all right and all. But he will always be Duckie to me. NPH deserved this. If you ask me, the success of HIMYM is all due to his wonderful portrayal of Barney. You take away Barney and you’re kind of left with a lame ass show. And I say that with a deep love for the show. Truly, I adore this quirky time-jumping sitcom. But Barney makes it!

Amanda Says:

“NO!!” Out loud. Jumped out of my seat. It was crazy, I spent his whole speech being like “Wow, this can’t be happening! What?! Really!?!” It really killed my high after Cheno’s win.

AlexH Says:

I decided I needed a two step plan to help me get over my dissapointment. 1) Find a girl to try “The Naked Man” on and help me deal with the first rough night. 2) Start a Slap Countdown for any and everyone who voted against NPH

Remy Says:

Let me set the scene for you:

I was having a great night. I was curled up on the couch with my two dogs, laptop firmly set in my lap, while I chatted with my best friend about the outfits. We were both in jovial moods, discussing our excitement for the rumored Dr Horrible sketch. I messaged “haha, very true”, just after Amy Poehler mentioned that this category, Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy, is the only comedy you can “buy” your way through.
I was all ready to celebrate. “NPH!” After all, every blog I read had him pegged as the only possible winner, especially after Piven wasn’t nominated. My hands were posed above the keyboard, ready to type a “YAY!” to my friend.

“…Jon Cryer!”

I screamed. I don’t think I’ve screamed like that since a few years ago when I mouse got in our house. I let out the shrillest “WHAT?!” known to man. The dogs jumped, and I came very close to chucking my laptop at the TV.

I’m still angry and upset. Ask anyone. The next night, a friend came over and wanted to watch some of the highlights. She stopped on this part, because she couldn’t believe that Jon Cryer had won. I had to leave the room – I couldn’t bear to hear it again. But I did return for NPH’s jabs against him…even though that did open the wounds up a little…*sniffle*

Lindlee Says:

WTF?! Will that show never go off the air? How can Barney not win? He is AWESOME!

Katrina Says:

I was shocked and shouted at my tv. my roommates must have thought I was crazy.

Calila Says:

my reaction was “wha…..???”. the emmys broke my brain for a little while

CC Says:

Obviously they don’t have taste ;p

Bloo Says:

Seriously? I just sat there in shock. Stared at my TV screen and tried not to scream. I would have lived if the Emmy had gone to someone else, but John Cryer? Of Two and a Half men?! Of all the comedy shows on television, the Academy had to pick the one I hated most. It made the whole thing just that much more unbearable. But at least we got the NPH losing jokes, those were funny. And yeah, that’s the only good side.

Susan Somers Says:

NPH was robbed – most definitely.

Heather Says:

Upset me, but didn’t surprise me. It always seems like those who actually have breakout performance in their genre are not recognized very frequently. Lauren Graham anyone? Oh well, we all know who is LEGEN…wait for it…DARY!

Linda B. Says:

I’m in the minority here because I’ve yet to see HIMYM, so I haven’t seen NPH in the role. Jon Cryer seems like a nice enough guy and I loved Duckie Dale in the day, so congrats to him.

Maybe if I win this DVD, I can start watching the show. ;)

Javi Says:

My reaction?… WHERE IS KANYE WHEN YOU NEED HIM!! I was pissed; I still am. I don’t get it; Jon Cryer’s performance is a joke, just like that show. Now that the kid is all grown up, the fart jokes are NOT funny!!! NPH shoul’ve won!!!!

Amy Dunbar Says:

I was right pissed. I think I may have blacked out for a moment cuz I don’t remember a lot except screaming and coming online to read what others thought. I had my family over to watch the Emmy’s with me and my step-mother was all happy that Jon Cryer won. So at that point I had to have a sit down with her and have a lecture about Neil Patrick Harris’ greatness.

Tiffany Says:

I though Jon Cryer layered really well. I also cringed. At his win, and layering.

Kayla Says:

I literally screamed “NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!” at the TV so loud my friend in the room with me screamed a little bit in fright. It was very bad. I proceeded to have a very passionate discussion with her about how Neil deserved to win over all of them to which she replied, “Nope, Rainn should have won.” Now, I love me some Dwight Schrute, but it made me even more upset. :)

Bec Says:

I threw my scotch at the television and immediately started to write a stern letter addressed to all that voted that began with ‘To dear burglars,’ and was centered around particularly around the phrase ‘what in the hell is wrong with you?!’.

I then went and watched Doctor Horrible and considered writing a fanfiction about Doc Hob’s interruption ringing true and concluding in NPH’s emmy being placed into the right, though paradoxically impossible, hands. It is currently being typed.

NPH deserves much more praise than he gets and missing out on winning is a ridiculous loss.

Kyle Says:

GHAAAAA

I have never seen 2.5 men and don’t know anyone who watches it–why is it “top rated” and how does it win awards?!

Sean Storm Says:

I was reallllly bummed out. Neil winning the award was the only thing I was looking forward to, other than him hosting the gig itself. So when he lost (especially without Piven in the running this year), I felt he was robbed. Still, with dignity and class, Neil continued to host the show, which, by the way, was the ONLY Emmy show I watched from start to finish, solely on the hosting talents of Neil alone. Bravo, NPH!

Tim Says:

NPH is hilarious. I just don’t understand how 2.5 men gets such high ratings. HIMYM makes me laugh so much more.

Amber Says:

Shock and disbelief, pretty much. The fact that NPH was overlooked for that crap show is terrible. As funny as Jon Cryer has the potential to be, he’s not funny on that show. NPH is fantastic on HIMYM.

theo Says:

TO be honest I didn’t watch season 4 of HIMYM, but my jaw still hit the floor is disbelief. Which is why I would love a copy of season 4…
!!!

Lauren Says:

I thought about throwing my remote at the TV and then went into my kitchen to eat my feelings.

jpm37 Says:

I am glad the CBS comedies get some love but NPH is way deserving of the Emmy

becky Says:

My immediate thought was, “that’s weird john cryer won for best supporting actor in a comedy series, cause two and a half men has never made me laugh.” irony….. Also that NPH is the funniest on TV right now and should have won, hands down.

MD Says:

NO WAY!!!

Kathleen Says:

I was so super bummed! NPH is the bestest!!!

Brooke Says:

Swarley, Barnacle, Barney anything you want to call him He so should have won!

Geraldine Says:

My reaction was something along the line of “…what? how? why? really? JON CRYER?!” NPH’s little bit with the cards after was funnier than anything that’s ever been on 2.5 Men, not to mention everything he’s done with the character of Barney.

Robyn Pennington Says:

NPH can deliver lines. Jon Cryer is just the punch line but he can’t deliver. NPH is legen – wait for it…. DARY! and so is his performance! I was heartbroken when Jon Cryer won… Ugh…
