I haven't been as much of a Mary McDonnell advocate as most people -- until this year. She has definitely impressed me this season, and I'm glad to see her in the top 10 list. In fact, she's my top pick. It's just a shame that Edward James Olmos isn't in the the top 10 for men, because he's been extra great this year too.

For me, Hugh Laurie, James Spader, and Denis Leary are always great picks. I don't totally comprehend the inclusion of Patrick Dempsey. He's good enough but not super.

A common response to the men's list over at TV Guide is, "James Spader AGAIN ?!?" I believe it would be a crime if he weren't nominated. For me, my top choice is a toss up between him and Hugh Laurie. Funny stuff, political commentary, emotional moments, introspective monologues, physical humor, interaction with William Shatner, looong but eloquent & dramatic closing arguments -- James Spader handles a full range of acting challenges in almost every episode, and he blows me away every time. If you don't like him or his character or the show, or you just don't think he should win because he has in the past, that's okay. But, whoever thinks he shouldn't at least be in the top 10 clearly doesn't watch the show, especially not the episode he was nominated for, in which he was brilliant. In fact, as good as Hugh Laurie was in the House episode for which he's nominated (part 1 of the 2-part season finale), Spader may be tough to beat. (In fairness, I don't watch a lot of the other shows from which the top 10 originate, so maybe they're excellent too. But, I go with what I know, and I have no doubt Spader at least belongs in that list, if not on stage accepting the award - - again.)

Patrick Dempsey? Are you joking me? You're right TVaddict, Matthew Fox IS going to be pissed.

I'm glad they recognized at least ONE person from BSG, I wouldn't have been surprised they skipped over the show just because it was SciFi. Now all we need the Academy to do is look at people who are actually talented instead of making the whole charade one big popularity contest. Seriously, James Spader last year? It's a shame so many actors do incredible work, just to be snubbed by the Academy. Hugh Laurie never winning an Emmy comes to mind, and the fact that Jensen Ackles has never (and will never) be nominated, is not right.

I don't know that there are many SVU fans here, but I'm glad to see Mariska Hargitay getting well-deserved recognition for "Undercover". She was incredible -- I was physically uncomfortable watching the last half of the episode. Some of the best work I've seen her do on the show, hands down.

Mana, I couldn't agree more! I mean everybody loves McDreamy, but a best actor nod. Matthew Fox must be pissed!
