Gemstar, the parent company of TV Guide International has acquired theTVaddict.com for an undisclosed sum.

Serving hundreds of thousands of bored office workers and procrastinating students television fans each and every month, theTVaddict.com has quickly grown into one of the web’s leading destination for all things television.

“theTVaddict.com provides TV fans with a unique outlet to discuss their favorite shows and we are excited to welcome such a dedicated online community to Gemstar-TV Guide.” said Sloof Lirpa, senior vp of business development for Gemstar-TV Guide. “We believe theTVaddict.com will be a valuable addition to our repertoire of entertainment content.”

With the acquisition will also come a name change of historic proportions. After coming to the realization that the only people who use TVGuide as a ‘guide for TV’ are sixty year old grandmothers, TVGuide will be renamed TV Addict.
