Jason Dohring Return to TV

June 28th, 2007

jason dohringLast night, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Jason Dohring (VERONICA MARS) has been cast in CBS’ fall pilot MOONLIGHT. According to the trade, Dohring will play the ancient vampire Josef, replacing the original 60-year-old Rade Serbedzija who played the part in the original pilot. Needless to say, after watching Dohring play angry, brooding and somewhat evil for three seasons on VERONICA MARS — a young, mischievous hedge-fund trader vampire doesn’t seem like such a stretch.

Amrie Says:

Is it shallow of me that originally, I didn’t plan to give Moonlight any shot, but now that Jason is reportedly a part of it, I’m completely in? :)

theTVaddict Says:

I think that was the CBS plan… Let’s attract an audience under 50!

Ashlee Says:

I want him to move to a show that will last.

Vance Says:

Oh NO. Not ANGEL. I mean Moonlight. I agree with Ashlee. I want him on a show that will last.

shanna Says:

For some reason this doesn’t excite me and doesn’t make me want to check out Moonlight. And I am a huge vampire freak but still … just makes me sad.

Carrie Says:

I think this is going to be awesome! They got the luminous Sophia Myles, and now Jason? With David Greenwalt running it I think it has a chance. I know it is very Angel-esque but there is room for a vampire show on network TV, and the scheduling after Ghost Whisperer is smart.

Of course, I think the reason I am most excited is I can’t stop thinking how hot Dohring is going to be as a (hopefully) bad-ass, dangerous sort of vampire. Yowza.

Brynhildur Says:

well now I’m forced to watch this show

Jenny Says:

w00t! I think I just peed myself a little. That’s awesome! I hope the show is good and that it sticks around cause JD on my screen each week is a very very good thing. :D

Tim G. Says:

A show about a Vampire private detective that falls for a mortal woman executive produced by David Greenwalt and it’s title ISN’T Angel?

No thanks, I’ll pass. Any self-respecting Whedon fan would be wise to do the same.

KayDee Says:

I think Greenwalt is imaging the show to a younger, sexier (Myles) demographic, making the series less ponderous and more edgy. Sounds good to me! I didn’t watch Veronica Mars, but I’m all for making a vampire show less “ancient” and more cutting edge. I’m glad Greenwalt came aboard! I’m more interested in watching than ever.

KayDee Says:

Tim G – I’m a huge Whedon fan who is not stuck in the past, but willing to give something new a try. The hallmark of a Whedon fan is someone who is open-minded, someone who looked past the campy “Buffy” movie and was willing to give the Buffy series a try. What happened to you? Do you think Joss actually cares you’re staging a one-man walk out on a series he isn’t involved in? Get real.

Tim G. Says:

KayDee – I’m perfectly willing to give “something new” a try. There’s just one problem when it comes to Moonlight, it’s not “something new.”

:)

Tim Says:

And Angel wasn’t “something new”, either. Angel was preceded by “Forever Knight” in the “tortured good guy vampire who fights crime” category. That didn’t stop “Angel” from being amazing, though. I won’t be so close minded, and intend to give the show a try, especially with the VM and whedonverse ties.

I had to imdb Sophia because I couldn’t remember hr. Even with that powerhouse I’m just leery of vampire shows. Other than Buffy and Angel, shows like this tend to get cancelled on big networks (and that was when shows didn’t get cancelled after just three episodes). I’ve been made scared to commit.

Gerrie Says:

I’m thrilled. I adored Angel but the series is over and since I love the genre, I’m willing to give any series that isn’t another boring crime procedural a chance. And the addition of Jason just makes it so much the better.
