The news that LOST will go on until 6th season comes with some repercussions whatsoever. This good news for viewers and LOST fans worldwide will also brings the inevitable questions - "Will LOST be able to keep up with the excitement and mystery as it was in the first two seasons, and as it is right now at the near end of third? The main reason why LOST is different than most of the TV serials is the storyline and also the fact that the story centered around an unknown island, not many of the TV serials can go by a plot like this. That's why LOST is so mysterious. That's why LOST is not 24, or Heroes. Despite criticism around the world, LOST still maintains its space and i think fans will be happy to know that we can go down with the mysterious Ben, Locke and all of them for at least three more season. But heres comes the big challenge - the production crew needs to figure out some way to maintain the interest in the storyline.

"Gabi" mentioned earlier that "I think this is sad news, because I don’t wont Lost to end, ever. " But think about it, LOST will not be LOST anymore , if it goes for 100 season! At some point we have to let it go, that's the point with our fav shows. For ex. F.R.I.E.N.D.S was a worldwide hit TV-sitcom, but at one point we learned that the show is going to end and it ended. But does that mean every F.R.I.E.N.D.S fan forgot all about it? Hope LOST will keep up with the expectations of the fans as they have done it previously. Who can tell? Only Time!

Ugh, Patricia Arquette...

I can't look at her for 5 minutes, let alone 44.

First off, Common Sense - ABC should NOT take lessons from FOX. Fox has cancelled too many of my favorite shows and i don't want any other network copying that!

Secondly i just read that the 16 episodes per season will air uninterrupted. Does that mean no repeats or no commercials? It'd be cool if it meant the latter.

Thirdly, i'm sorry tvaddict, but i just heard Medium got picked up for a fourth season. i know how you hate that show (or is it just PA you hate?) ;)

ABC isn't wholly to blame in Lost's declining ratings. EVERY serialized show shows a decline in ratings over the years. This is why networks like CBS and NBC decided to highlight their procedural shows like the CSI's and Law & Orders.

The shift to serialized stories like Lost and Heroes is actually even influencing the procedural shows. You see a lot more continuity occurring in addition to multi-episode arcs now in these shows. The key to serialized shows is to start out with a big enough audience. That was Veronica Mars' problem. It simply didn't launch with a big enough audience to sustain it. Hopefully the switch to the hybrid format it's trying now will help get it renewed. The cases are one per episode, but there still is multi-episode continuity happening within the character's personal lives.

The ONLY way ABC is copying FOX is with the "24" similarity. But the point is, ABC had a juggernaut in their hands, with ratings almost DOUBLE what they are now...and squandered it. Whereas FOX takes a juggernaut like "Idol," and milks it for all it's worth, even several times a week. There was a demand for LOST, like Idol, but ABC wouldn't or couldn't deliver. And I fear the longer this thing extends, with such limited supply, the smaller the loyal, core audience will become. And if ABC, in fact, moves Lost back to an earlier timeslot on Wed. in January, it will be smack-dab up against Idol, the kiss of death for most shows. This plan stinks on many levels.

Sam — "Poor Underused Emilie de Ravin"

She's getting paid A LOT to sit on a beach in Hawaii and spout a few lines. I think she'll be okay :)

I have to agree with the TVAddict. Actually ABC has taken a lesson from FOX, they are airing LOST like 24 (starting in January and have no repeats). Not only does this formula work for 24 but unlike that dying show, ABC and the producers/writers of LOST have given their audience a timetable and a lead up towards a conclusive and (hopefully) satisfying ending.

I know I'd rather have sixteen amazing action-packed episodes every season rather than a long, hiatus-filled season with filler episodes.

Common Sense,

While you usually make 'sense' (hence the name!) I must respectively disagree with you.

I think this plan will have a positive effect on LOST. As ABC continues to run LOST over the next three Januarys (with zero repeats), the excitement and buzz will build as the series reaches a specific end date. How psyched do you think fans will be for that final season? Frankly, it's comforting to know there is a plan and a definitive end date in mind.
