RUNAWAY Cancelled
October 18th, 2006
File this under news that will surprise nobody. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the CW has cancelled RUNAWAY. After four episodes, the show could only pull in an average of 1.9 million viewers. Rather then being known as the CW’s first original drama, RUNAWAY will forever be known as the show responsible for EVERWOOD’S demise.
This TV Addict’s next question, which CW exec is getting shown the door for that bone-headed decision. ![]()

Ahh yes, flip two lineups, bill Sunday as “Family Night,” then cancel the show Dawn & Co. HAD TO HAVE after one family-night airing. Seriously, is Jamie Kellner or Jordan Levin available to head the programming dept.? Please? They’ve now surrounded 7th Heaven with a full night of repeats. Exactly how is that productive? Maybe more importantly, where will they now stick the midseason soap “Hidden Palms,” which could actually succeed? Certainly not up against Desp. Housewives, though.
Let this be a lesson to all networks. You don’t cancel critical-darlings & cult faves like Arrested Development & Everwood…only to replace them with unproven farts like “Happy Hour” and “Runaway.” And stop copying every hit & saturating the airwaves with them. We can only handle so much kidnapping/vanishing/escaping runaways. Prison Break did it first and best, and we’re just getting sucked into more weekly “commitments.”
