NBC to preview shows on Netflix

July 19th, 2006

In what the TV addict believes is a brilliant promotional move, NBC has signed a deal with Netflix (the leading internet video rental store) to offer select shows from their fall line-up to Netflix Subscribers. NBC hopes to drum up early buzz for two shows: STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP and KIDNAPPED by offering them on DVD to Netflix Subscribers

According to NBC, subscribers will be able to watch the first episodes of each of the shows and sample trailers of NBC’s other new series set to air in the 2006/2007 broadcast season. The shows will be available beginning on August 5.

Yet another reason why theTVaddict wishes NetFlix would come to Canada!

Oh, sorry. I thought Canada could get Netflix too.

Unfortunately, Canada only has zip.ca – which I’m told pales in comparison to netflix

[...] As a big Aaron Sorkin fan, I am excited about his upcoming “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” series. So excited that I am almost considering [gasp] watching broadcast television. Something I have not done for many months, and have not done regularly for over three years. My brother, also a big Sorkin fan, tipped me off to the pilot’s presence on Netflix. Current presence, that is. Not saved presence. And the show hasn’t even premiered yet. What gives? Poked around and found that NBC inked some sort of deal with Netflix whereby the pilot for “Studio 60″ (as well as its upcoming “Kidnapped” series, about which I am less excited) would be made available to Netflix subscribers before its air date (by about six weeks) in order to drum up interest. I never felt more happy to be a Netflix subscriber. This way I can figure out whether I want to bother braving the commercials and looking at a clock (and hooking up an antenna, no doubt) come September. Should get it tomorrow or Wednesday. I’ll let you know whether it is any good then. [...]
